Sanika – there are different Sepration techniques involved in Sewage treatment plant

 In the primary sedimentation sewage flows through large tanks, commonly called
Decantaion tanks.
 The tanks are used to settle sludge while grease and oils rise to the surface and are
skimmed off.
 Primary settling tanks are usually equipped with mechanically driven scrapers that
continually drive the collected sludge towards a hopper in the base of the tank.
 Sludge may be treatment to produce Methane gas which can be used as fuel.
 Grease and oil from the floating material can sometimes be recovered for saponification
(soap making).
 So basically we use decantation Sepration technique in primary method. Water is then
send to secondary treatment.
 Can anyone explain me how secondary treatment works in sewage treatment plant?

Kurukshetra May 2015 : Swachh Bharat Abhiyan- Role of Indigenous Technologies

Developed by BARC is Bhabha Atomic Research Centre

 As Sohel told In start Swach Bharat Abhiyan The Government has taken various steps to create
awareness among the masses for keeping the area surrounding them neat and clean.
 To achieve the target of cleanliness, the technologies to treat the waste material should also be
developed along with creating awareness'
 There are many technologies that are used to treat waste material. They are usually very costly
very complex to be understood and viable only for large size units.
 At the same time, indigenous technologies are low cost and easy to use and can be used by
different size units. ln lndia, they are particularly suitable for the small and medium units.
 INDIGENOUS WATER PURIFICATION TECHNOLOGIES:
 These technologies can improve the drinking water quality of smaller villages as well as larger
cities. lt uses the Pressure Driven Membrane Processes. These are suitable for all capacity units
e.g. they are adaptable from household level unit or community level unit to large scale unit
Water purification technologies make use of the nuclear energy and solar energy also.

Sakshi can u explain nxt technology Multi Stage Biological Treatment

Membrane Technology for Water Purifiers

Membrane based water Purification Technolo8y has been developed by BARC Bhabha Atomic
Research Centre. Benefits of BARC Membrane having low maintenance (about Rs. 500 per
year). lt is very easy to use and very low cost solution for the water contamination.

Present and future regulations concerning groundwater, surface water, and wastewater quality
require is one hand, careful monitoring of water quality is on the other hand, development of
wastewater treatment methods. Swach bharat abhyan using of groundwater in processes (textile
manufacturers, laundries, breweries, etc.) are required to examine alternative water sources.
Treatment of process waters or wastewaters to reuse in production processes is the most
promising option to decrease groundwater consumption. Classical methods, such as
coagulation/flocculation, biological treatment, and sand filtration may be used, but “new”
techniques is. Pressure driven membrane processes (microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration,
reverse osmosis) are among the most promising techniques. These processes can be used to
remove a wide range of components, ranging from suspended solids (microfiltration) to small
organic compounds and ions (reverse osmosis).

Sohel can u OVERVIEW OF PRESSURE-DRIVEN MEMBRANE PROCESSES?

Swach bharat abhyan used Ballistic separation

A ballistic separator is a mechanical sorting device with oscillating paddles that run
the length of the sorting deck. It has a different effect on the waste stream causing a
separation of rigid items off one end and flexible items off the other. The paddles
usually have a mesh opening in the deck to allow the fines, such as glass, to drop
through the deck to provide another separation.

When used in sorting waste, the rigid items are  containers like plastic bottles, glass,
aluminum cans, steel cans. The flexible fraction is plastic wrap and different paper
grades like cardboard, mixed office paper, and newsprint.
The Process:

Thermal depolymerization is a process that involves creating oil from organic materials such as
plastic and animal waste. The first step of TDP takes hydrocarbon-containing plastics or organic
waste and grinds them up with water. This mixture, also called the feedstock, is heated to
between 200 and 300 degrees Celsius. The heated mixture evaporates some of the water, creating
steam. The steam then puts the mixture under high pressure, similar to a pressure cooker. These
conditions are held for around 15 minutes. The second step involves rapidly decreasing the
pressure of the feedstock, allowing the water and the hydrocarbons to separate. These separated
hydrocarbons are the crude oil. The final step in thermal depolymerization is called fractional
distillation.

Fractional Distillation:

• Fractional distillation heats the separated hydrocarbons, breaking them into usable products
such as gasoline and jet fuel • These hydrocarbons are different sizes, giving them unique
chemical properties • The most significant property is that the molecules have different boiling
points • The molecules are placed in a heated column, and as elevation increases in the column,
the temperature decreases • The molecules are then evaporated and travel up the column • The
liquid is then collected in trays and pumped out of the column, ready for human consumption.

Can anybody explain the benfits??

In Swach Bharat Abhiyan the Government has taken various steps to create awareness among the
masses for keeping the area surrounding them neat and clean. The role of separation in Swach
Bharat Abhiyan uses techniques and methods to separate purify water from waste water which
we talk in krukshetra area and bioleaching is processs of using bacteria and fungi to separate
metals from electronic waste. Solid waste management has been one of the primary concerns for
developed as well as developing nations. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan have invented a breakthrough
technology of converting plastic into petroleum products like diesel and gasoline, acting as a
close substitute of conventional petroleum products in that thermal depolymerization combats
methane emissions from landfill waste by using the harmful waste products to create useful oil.
TDP has the potential to replace drilling, eliminating the harmful gases released into the air
during the drilling process. TDP would also eliminate the need for detrimental chemicals used
during fracking.
