1:Twice the width of a rectangle is 10 meters more than its length. If the area of the
region enclosed by the rectangle is 600 square meters then find its perimeter.[BHBFC
SO_2017]
Solution:
Let,
Width of rectangle is x m
And
Length of the rectangle is 2x-10 m
According to the question,
x*(2x-10)=600
or, x2-5x-300=0
or, (x-20)(x+15)=0
Here, x=20
Either
x=-15 [it's not acceptable]
So,the width of rectangle is 20 m
Length=(20*2-10)=30 m
2:A boat running upstream takes 8 hours 48 minutes to cover a certain distance, while
it takes 4 hours to cover the same distance running downstream. What is the ratio
between the speed of the boat and speed of the water current
respectively?[BHBFC_SO_2017]
Solution :
Let,
Speed of the boat is x
Speed of the current is y
Speed of the downstream=(x+y)
Speed of the upstream=(x-y)
According to the question,
{8.8(x-y)}={4(x+y)}
or, 8.8x-8.8y=4x+4y
or, 4.8x=12.8y
or, 24x=64y
or, x:y=8:3
And:8:3
3:A customer bought 5 pencils and 6 erasers at tk. 80. Next week, the price of each
pencil increases by 20% but the price of erasers remains unchanged. Now the customer
buys 2 pencils and 3 erasers at tk. 39. Find the new price of each pencil.
[BHBFC_SO_2017]
:::
Solution:
Let,
Price of each pencil be P
Price of each eraser be E
New price of each pencil
=P*6/5
=6P/5
So,price of 2 pencil
=2*6P/5
=2.4P
According to the question,
5P+6E=80-------------(i)
2.4P+3E=39---------(ii)
(i)-(ii)*2
5P+6E=80
4.8P+6E=78
---------------------
0.2P=2
Or,P=2/0.2
=10
So,the new price of the pencil
10*6/5=12
Ans:12 tk

5:The price of a shirt and a pant together is Tk. 1300. If the price of the shirt increases
by 5% and that of the pant by 10%, it costs Tk. 1405 to buy those two things. Find the
respective price of a shirt and a pant. [BHBFC_SO_2017]
:::
Solution:
Suppose,
The prices of a shirt and a pant are Tk. x and Tk. y respectively. According to the
question:
x+y = 1300 ----------------------- (i)
1.05x + 1.1y = 1405 ---------- (ii)
Subtracting from
(i)*1.1 - (ii)=»
0.05x =25
Or, x = 500
Substituting the value of x in equation (i) we get,
500+y = 1300 y = 800.

Question-3:Find the three digit prime number whose sum of the digits is 11 and each
digit representing a prime number. Justify your answer. [BDBL_SENIOR_OFFICER_2018]
Solution:
Since the sum of the 3 digits is 11 and each digit represents a prime number,
So, the number less than 11 .
And the 3 digits may be 2,2,7 or 3,3,5
Because 2+2+7=11 and 3+3+5=11
Now using the digit 2,2,7 we have prime number 227 .Because other two numbers i.e.
722 and 272 are divisible by 2 and thus are not prime
Similarly 353 is prime number other two numbers 533 & 335 is not prime number
In case of 227, sum of the digits is 2+2+7 = 11.
And 2, 2, 7 all the digits are prime.
Similarly, In case of 353, sum of the digits is 3+5+3 = 11.
And 3, 5, 3 all the digits are prime.
Justify:
For 227,sum of the digits=2+2+7=11 and it has only two factors that are 1 & 227
For 353,sum of the digits=3+5+3=11 and it has only two factors that are 1 & 353
Answer: 227 & 353

Question-1:A novelist earned Tk. 100,000 from royalties on her book. She paid 20%
income tax on the royalties. She invested Tk. 50,000 at one rate and the rest at a rate
that was 1% lower, earning 6,100 taka annual interest on the two investments. What
was the lower rate?
[Agrani_Bank_Officer_Cash_2018]
Solution:
Given that
Total income = 100000 tk
After 20% tax then his net salary
=100000*80%
=80000 tk
Let,
He invested tk 50000 at r %
and
tk 30000 invested at (r-1)%
According to the question,
{50000*r/100}+{30000*(r-1)/100}= 6100
Or, 500r+300(r-1)=6100
Or, 100(5r+3(r-1)) =61*100
Or, 5r+3r-3=61
Or, 8r =64
Or, r= 8
So higher rate was =8 %
So lower rate was =8-1=7%
Answer: 7%
Question-2:A working couple earned a total of Tk. 43, 520. The wife earned Tk. 640 per
day, the husband earned Tk .551 per day. lf the total number of days worked by both
was 72, formulate a system of equation and solve the system to find the number of
days worked by
[Agrani_Bank_Officer_Cash_2018]
Solution:
Given that,
Per day income of Wife=640 tk
And,
Husband=560 tk
Let,
Wife work for x days
and husband work (72-x)days.
According to the question,
640*x+560*(72-x)=43520
Or,640x+40320-560x=43520
Or, 80x=43520-40320
Or, 80x=3200
Or, x=3200/80
Or x=40
So wife work 40 hours
and
husbands = 72-40=32 hours
Answer: 40 hours and 32 hours
Question-3:A man’s salary in 2015 was tk 20,000 per annum and it increased by 10%
each year. Find how much he earned in the years 2015 to 2017 inclusive.
[Agrani_Bank_Officer_Cash_2018]
Solution:
Given that,
In 2015 his initial salary was= 20000 tk
And Also given that,Each year his annual salary increased by 10%
So, In 2016 his salary was
=20000*110/100
=22000 tk
In 2017 his salary was ,
=22000*110/100
=24200 tk
So total earned by him from 2015 to 2017 inclusive

Answer: 66200 tk
Question-4: Prove that the sum of the odd numbers from 1 to 125 inclusive is equal to
the sum of the odd numbers from 169 to 209 inclusive.
[Agrani_Bank_Officer_Cash_2018]
Solution:
1 to 125 is a arithmetic series
1+3+5+7…………+125
Here,
a=1
d=3-1=2
So,In arithmetic series n th term is
a+(n-1)d=125
or, 1+(n-1)*2=125
or, 1+2n-2=125
or, 2n=126
or, n=63
So, sum of the arithmetic series
= (1st term +last term)*n/2
=(1+125)*63/2
=63*63
=3969
Similarly,
169+171+173……..+209
It is a arithmetic series,
a=169
d=171-169=2
So,In arithmetic series n th term is
or,169+(n-1)*2=209
or, 2n-2=209-169
or, 2n=40+2
or n=42/2
=21
So, sum of the arithmetic series
=(169+209)*21/2
=378*21/2
=189*21
=3969
So,
1+3+5+7…………+125=169+171+173……..+209=3969 (Proved)

Question-3: 64x3 -9ax2+108x-b. what is the value of a and b for making it perfect cube.
[BKB_CASH_OFFICER_2018]
Solution:
Given that,
64x3 -9ax2+108x- q3
We know the formula for perfect cube
(p-q) 3=p3-3.p2.q+3.p.q2-q3
Comparing with given Equation,
p3 =64 x3
P=4x……..(1)
Again,
3p2q =9ax2………..(2)
3pq2 =108x………...(3)
q3 = b…..(4)
From (3) we get,
3pq2 =108x =3.4x,32
So, q =3
From (4)=>
b=33
b = 27
From (2)=>

Question-2:A shopkeeper sells two shirt at the same price.He makes 10% profit on one
and losses 10% on the other.How much percentage does he gain or lose?
[Agrani Bank SO (Auditor) Written-2018]
Solution :
Let,
Selling price of first & Second shirt be =tk 100
First case,
10% profit on CP
SO,
CP + CP Of 10%=100
Or, CP=1000/11
Second case,
10% loss on CP
CP - CP of 10%=100
Or, CP =1000/9
Total Cost price=(1000/11)+(1000/9)
=202.02 tk
Total Selling price=(100+100)=200 tk
Loss=CP-SP=202.2-200=2.02
Loss percentage
=(2.02*100)/202.02
=1%
Alternative for MCQ:
By applying effective rate:
=10-10-(10*10/100)
=1% loss
Another Alternative:
In the case where loss and gain percentage is common on same selling price, always a
loss incurs in total deal. And this can be calculated by a short-cut:
Loss on total deal,
= (Common loss or gain percentage /10)2= (10/10)2
= 1%
Question-3:Find the HCF of

=x(x2-16)
=x(x-4)(x+4)
Second case,
2 x3+9 x2+4x
=x(2 x2+9x+4)
=x(x+4)(2x+1)
3rd case,
(2 x3)- x2-28x
=x(2x^2 - x +28)
=x(x+4)(2x-7)
Hence, HFC of these factors
=x(x+4)

Question-2:The profit of a company is given in Taka by P = 3x²-35x+50, where x is the
amount in Taka spent on advertising. For what values of x does the company make a
profit?
Solution:
Here,
P=3x² - 35x + 50
Now,if the company makes profit,then P>0
So,
3x² - 35x + 50 > 0
=> 3x² - 30x – 5x + 50 > 0
=> 3x(x-10) – 5(x-10) > 0
=> (x-10)(3x-5) > 0--------------(1)
As this equation(1) is greater than 0,So the value of the two roots must have different
values in different intervals.
Now,the equation(1),we have

Answer: The cost of 1 table is tk 500 and 1 chair is 100 tk and total 600 tk
Question-3:A shopkeeper sells two shirt at the same price.He makes 10% profit on one
and losses 10% on the other.How much percentage does he gain or lose?
[Agrani Bank SO (Auditor) -2018] [Rupali Bank Cash-2018]
Solution :
Let,
Selling price of first & Second shirt be =tk 100
First case,
10% profit on CP
SO,
CP + CP Of 10%=100
Or, CP=1000/11
Second case,
10% loss on CP
CP - CP of 10%=100
Or, CP =1000/9
Total Cost price=(1000/11)+(1000/9)
=202.02 tk
Total Selling price=(100+100)=200 tk
Loss=CP-SP=202.2-200=2.02
Loss percentage
=(2.02*100)/202.02
=1%
Alternative for MCQ:
By applying effective rate:
=10-10-(10*10/100)
=1% loss
Another Alternative:
In the case where loss and gain percentage is common on same selling price, always a
loss incurs in total deal. And this can be calculated by a short-cut:
Loss on total deal,
= (Common loss or gain percentage /10)2= (10/10)2
= 1%

Question-5:A family has 480 kg of rice for X number of weeks.If they need to use the
same amount for 4 more weeks, they need to cut down their weekly assumption of rice
by 4 kg. what is the value of X? [Rupali Bank Officer Cash-2018]
Solution:
Family”s previous Consumption by week = 480/x
Latest Consumption by week = 480/(x+4)
According to the question,
Or, 480/x - 480/(x+4) = 4
Or, 4x (x+4) = 480*4
Or, x (x+4) = 480
Or, x² + 4x - 480 = 0
Or, (x-20) (x+24) = 0
OR,
x-20=0
Or, x=20
Either, x = -24
Ans : 20 weeks
Question-6:If cos (A+B) = 1/√2 and Cos (A-B) = √3/2, then what is the value of A & B[0∘
< A+B ≤ 90∘ And A > B] . [Rupali Bank Officer Cash-2018]
Solution:
Given that,
cos (A+B) = 1/√2
Or, Cos (A+B)= Cos 45 [Since, Cos 45 = 1/√2]
Or, A+B = 45
A = 45 - B ………………..(1)
Again,
Cos 30 = √3/2 = Cos (A-B)
Or, A-B = 30
Or, 45-B -B = 30 [From Equation (1)]
Or, B = 15/2
Putting the value of B= 15/2 in Equation (1)
So, A = 45 - 15/2 = 75/2
Ans : 75/2 & 15/2
Question-7:Solve: 1/2x + 6/y = 3, 5/x + 3/y = 11[Rupali Bank Cash-2018]
Solution:
Given That,
1/2x + 6/y = 3
12x + y = 6xy
y = 6xy - 12x
5y = 30xy - 60x ------------------(1)
Question-1:A teacher has 3 hours to grade all the papers submitted by the 35 students
in her class.She gets through the first 5 papers in 30 minutes. How much faster does
she have to work to grade the remaining papers in the allotted time? [Sonali Bank SO-
2018]
Solution:
Given,
Total allotted time = 3 hours= (3×60) minutes = 180 minutes
Remaining time = (180-30) minutes = 150 minutes
Remaining number of papers=35-5 = 30
So, she has 150 minutes in hand to grade a total of 30 papers.
Her speed of grading first 5 papers = 5/30 papers per minute
={(5×60)/30} papers per hour
= 10 papers per hour.
And, to complete her work in time, her required speed of grading 30 papers is
= 30/150papers per minute
={(30×60)/150}papers per hour
= 12 papers per hour.
So, she should enhance her work speed by (12-10)/10 or 20%.
Answer: 20% faster.
Question-2:A two digit number is four times the sum of the two digits. If the digits are
reversed, the number so obtained is 18 more than the original number. What is the
original number? [Sonali Bank SO-2018]
Solution:
Suppose,
the unit digit of the number is = y
the tens digit of the number is = x
So, the number is = 10x+y
According to the question,
4(x+y) = 10x+y
or, 4x+4y = 10x+y
or, 6x = 3y
or, y = 2x ………. (i)
Again,
10y+x = 10x+y+18
or, 9y – 9x = 18
or, 9×2x – 9x = 18 [substituting the value of y from equation (i)]
or, 9x = 18
or, x = 2
Substituting the value of x in equation (i), we get,
y = 2×2 = 4.
So, the original number is = 10×2 + 4 = 24
Answer: 24.
Question-3:Someone plans to invest x taka in the bond of 'M' Company, which pays
10% interest and y taka in 'N' Company bonds, which pay 9% interest. He will invest
9000 taka and require that he receives 850 taka as interest. How much should he
invest in each company? [Sonali Bank SO-2018]
Solution:
Suppose,
Or, x=85000-81000
Or, x=4000
Question-4. A circle is inscribed inside a right angled triangle with equal sides. What is
the area of the circle if the length of one side of the right angled triangle is 4cm?
[Sonali Bank SO-2018]
Solution:
Suppose, ABC is a right angled triangle with AB = BC = 4 cm.
So, AC = √(AB²+BC²) = 4√2 cm.
Suppose,
XYZ is the circle with center O and radius r, inscribed to ΔABC.
The circle touches AB at X, BC at Y and AC at Z.
So, OX = XB = BY = YO = OZ = r.
As AB and AC are tangent to the circle
at X and Z respectively, we can say, OX⏊AB,
and OZ⏊AC.
Now, in ΔAXO and ΔAZO, ∠OXA = ∠OZA = 90°, OX = OZ, and OA = OA.
So, ΔAXO ≅ ΔAZO.
So, AX = AZ = (4-r)
Following the similar procedure we can say, CY = CZ = (4-r)
Now,
AZ + CZ = AC
or, (4-r) + (4-r) = 4√2
or, 8 – 2r = 4√2
or, 2r = 8-4√2
or, r = 4-2√2.
So, the area of the circle
= π(4-2√2)² = π(16 – 16√2 + 8) = 8π(3-2√2) ≈ 4.31 square cm.
Answer: 8π(3-2√2) square cm or 4.31 square cm (apprx.).
Solution:
Given, x² - yx = 7
or, yx = x²-7
or, y=x- 7x
again,
y²+xy = 30
or -14+
or, 2
or, 2
or,( )( )
either,
(x²-1) = 0 or, x = 1 or -1
or,
(2x²-49) = 0 or, x = 7/√2 or, -7/√2
Solution:
Suppose, AT is the tangent mentioned above and OA is the direct distance of A from the
center of the circle. Let’s join O and T.
So, OT⏊AT. So, In the ΔATO, ∠ATO = 90°, AT = 12cm and AO = 13cm.
AT²+OT² = AO²
or, OT = 5
Answer: 10 cm.

Question-2:A piece of stone fell from a balloon when it was flying in the upward
direction with a velocity 20m/sec.What will be the height of the balloon when the stone
hit the ground in 10sec?
Solution:
Given that,
u=20 m/S
t=10 second
g=9.8 m/s
Distance S=?
We know that,
S=-ut +
The velocity of the stone= negative value of the velocity of the balloon
( Direction ব র )
Or, S=-20*10+0.5*9.8*(10)2
Or,S=-200+490=290
So, when the stone fell in the ground, then the height of the balloon
=290+20*10=490 m
Answer:490 meter
= πr
= (22/7) x 14 = 44 cm
This becomes circumference of base of cone
2πR = 44
R = 44 x (7/44)
R = 7 cm
The radius of semi circular sheet
= slant height of conical cup
That is l = 7 cm
We know that,
r2 + h2 = l2
Or,(14)2 + h2 = 72
Or,196 – 49 = h2
Or,h2 = 147
Therefore, h = 7√3 cm
