QUESTION:
As a future construction project manager, why is it important to

understand the Project Management Information System? Specify at
least (3) reasons. Defend your answer. At least 150 words.
A construction project manager is a person in charge of officiating the

entirety of the construction process, including cost estimating, cost control, and
project scheduling. As a future construction project manager, it is my duty to ensure
that the project will be constructed within the schedule, within the budget, and
within the desired specifications; to satisfy the client and the end-users. To do so, I
must keep a database of all the activities on the site, how these activities were
implemented, where and when were they executed, and who were the people
involved. All of these are stored and organized in the Project Management
Information System. In this way, I will be able to create the right and appropriate
decisions when needed.
The decision-making process in the construction industry is a vital aspect of

a project. It is a key factor in how the project will progress. To make the right
decisions, I must consider all the factors involved, how these factors influence the
situation, and the consequences of every potential decision. Moreover, I should
view the situation from different perspectives to have a full grasp of it. The PMIS
will be of great help in achieving the required conditions to make the correct and
appropriate decision or set of decisions. First, the PMIS stores all the records of
previous complications that happened in the site and insights from similar
situations from other projects. From these data, I will have an insight into the
potential outcomes of the situation, what should be avoided, and how similar
problems were resolved. In cases where I have to resolve a problem, it will give me
a better perspective of what actions might work and what might not.

Second, the PMIS promotes transparency of information to all personnel involved.
It stores significant information about the activities on the site that is accessible to
all personnel that may need it. Third, the PMIS holds the right people accountable
for their actions. Included in the stored information are the people involved in
every activity on the site. It allows faster and more accurate tracking of people that
are liable for any activity during the construction process. Fourth, the PMIS allows
broader participation in the decision-making process. Since the stored information
in the PMIS is accessible to all personnel, there will also be a greater number of
people who may propose solutions to problems or responses to sudden changes in
the plan. It will make the idea generation and decision-making process faster, more
inclusive, and more effective. Fifth, the data stored in the PMIS will serve as a
reference on the effectiveness of every aspect of the project. The PMIS holds all
the activities and complications that happened during the construction process,
including how they were managed and the outcomes of decisions. These data can
help prevent similar complications from happening again, resolve future challenges
that already happened in the current project, and improve the management
process to achieve a better output.
In conclusion, the Project Management Information System plays a major

role in the construction industry. It is vital to understand the PMIS for a more
effective and efficient construction project management and a satisfying
construction output - to achieve project success.
