GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR FYP THESIS

Paper
Size - A4 (21.0cm X 29.7cm)
Color – White

3.3 Font Size and Type


Students MUST use Times New Roman. Other fonts are NOT ACCEPTABLE.
Font Size:
• For Headings and subheadings, use 12-point font.
• For Table of Contents, use 11-point font.
• For Text, use 11-point font.
• For captions of Tables and Figures, use 10-point and align text to the center.
• For Footnotes, use 9-point font.
Please type in bold for headings and subheadings. Headings should be typed in all upper
case letters while sub-headings are to be typed in upper and lower case letters. The first
paragraph of each section should start without any indentation. For second paragraph
onward, the first line should be indented by 0.5” from the left.

Line spacing
The project paper should be typed on one side of the page. Line spacing is 1.5 lines for the
text, with single-spacing for exceptional circumstances only:
• Footnotes
• Long headings or subheadings
• Long captions to tables, or figures
• References
• Appendices
• Tables
• Quotations

Equations
Use standard Microsoft Word Equation Editor to edit your equations. Do not embed
"graphically designed" equations. Equations should be numbered consecutively in the paper
and are cited in the text by writing “Eq. (1)” or “Eqs. (1) and (2).

The equation is to be aligned to the left on the line while its number using Arabic numerals
enclosed in parentheses is to be aligned to the right.

Margins and Justification


Set the justification to “full” and the margins to the following measurements:

TOP : 1”
BOTTOM : 1”
LEFT : 1.5”
RIGHT : 1”
Pagination
The following plan of page numbering has been standardized and must be observed. All page
numbers should be right aligned at the bottom of the page(footer).
a. Preliminary pages. Preliminary pages include all the sections that precede the text. They
are arranged and numbered using small Roman numerals (i, ii, iii, etc.).
b. Text pages. Use format <page number>.
c. Supplementary pages. No pagination.

Use of Footnotes

Footnotes MUST NOT be used for citing references. They should be used only for useful
extensions and excursions of information in the body of the text. Footnotes should be
numbered consecutively with superscript numerals. Footnotes should be in single spacing,
using font size 9-point.

Header and Footer

Header :
The chapter or topic should be right aligned at the top of page, using font size 9-point.

Footer :
The page numbers should be right aligned at the bottom of the page, using font size 9-point.
The page number format :
• Roman numerals for preliminary pages.
• <page number> for text pages.

Setting out References


There are two methods by which references can be displayed, the British Standard and IEEE
standard. Once a method has been selected it is important to be consistent in applying it.

Hardcopy printing
The printing is to be single-sided.

Work.
