1.0 INTRODUCTION
This operating manual relates to the facilities indicated on Process Flow Diagram
PR-57-PR32-001 and the P&IDs PR-00-SYPI-017 to PR-00-SYPI-018D and PR-10-
SYPI-001 to PR-10-SYPI-007
Nitrogen can be supplied to various continuous and intermittent users in the Skikda
New LNG Train at minimum 6.4 barg from the tie-in connection to the nitrogen
header in GL1K. .
There is no nitrogen generating facility in the New Skikda LNG Train.

3.0 OPERATIONS
3.1 Normal Running
The continuous demand of the New Skikda LNG Plant for Nitrogen is expected to be
approximately 976 Nm3/h during normal operations.
Nitrogen is also intermittently used for purging lines or equipment during start-up,
shutdown and other maintenance activities. The peak demand for nitrogen, which is
the sum of continuous loads plus the peak intermittent load for each unit, is expected
to be 1254 Nm3/h.

4.0 START-UP
This section outlines the steps necessary to place the Nitrogen System in service.
For the purpose of this section of the operating manual, it is assumed that the
following conditions exist: Nitrogen System is pre-commissioned including flushing,
blowing, draining and tightness testing; utilities are in service, and system is ready
for start-up.
Note that nitrogen is supplied to the utility stations and various process users in the
New LNG Train from the GL1.K complex at 6.4 barg or by pipeline from Messer
Algeria at 7.0 barg. It is therefore critical that the system is thoroughly checked prior
to start-up in order to avoid nitrogen losses to the atmosphere. Nitrogen should be
used only as necessary.
Prior to the startup, it must be confirmed that the nitrogen valves to all users are lined
up in their normal positions as either Normally Opened or Normally Closed as per the
P&IDs. The low point drains and vent valves should be confirmed as closed and the
plugs are installed.
4.1 Nitrogen Start-up
1. Notify GL1.K complex of intent to place Nitrogen System in service.
2. Slowly open the 3” isolation valve at OSBL battery limit and pressure up the
Nitrogen system to supply pressure. Monitor oxygen content via analyzer 00-AI-
1020 and inform supplier if oxygen is not per specifications.
3. Slowly open the 3” isolation valve at the Fractionation Unit battery limit and
pressure up the Fractionation Unit to supply pressure.
4. Slowly open the 3” isolation valve at the LNG Train battery limit and pressure up
the LNG train to supply pressure.
5. Once service is established, notify supplier if nitrogen supply pressure is too low.
The nitrogen system is now in service.

5.0 SHUTDOWN
5.1 Normal Shutdown
Nitrogen supply to the New LNG Train is normally not shutdown until after the entire
LNG train is shutdown. Nitrogen supply to the flare headers is required even after the
New LNG Train is shutdown.
For the purposes of this operating manual, it is assumed that the nitrogen system is
in normal operation while the entire LNG Train is shutdown.
1. Notify GL1.K complex of intent to shutdown the Nitrogen System.
2. Verify that the nitrogen system headers are isolated.
3. Isolate nitrogen supply to the new LNG Train via 3” ball valve located near the
tie-in point to the GL1.K facilities.
4. If required, isolate nitrogen supply to the Fractionation Unit via 3” ball valve at
battery limit.
5. If required, isolate nitrogen supply to the LNG Train via 3” ball valve at battery
limit.
6. The nitrogen system is now shutdown. Depressure system if required.
5.2 Process Upsets / Production Loss
The following events can cause temporary process upsets in the Nitrogen system
resulting in production loss.
1. Loss of Nitrogen Pressure
Loss of nitrogen pressure from supply source (GL1.K facilities) could result in
complete stoppage of flow to nitrogen consumers if not corrected quickly. Buffer gas
for the main compressors is necessary for keeping the lube oil away from the seals.
