SECTION - I (40 marks)


Compulsory : Attempt all questions from this section.
Question 1.
(a) Name the following : [6]

(e) Give the balanced equations for the following : [10]


(i) Ethene is oxidized with cold dil KMnO4.
(ii) Ethene is treated with hydrogen bromide.
(iii) Ethane is treated with excess of oxygen.
(iv) Ethene is dehydrogenated.
(v) Ethyl alcohol reacts with conc. sulphuric acid at 170ºC.

(f) Define Ionisation potential. Give its trend across the period and down the group. [2]

(g) State Gay Lussac’s law. [5]


Concentrated nitric acid oxidises phosphorus to phosphoric acid according to
the following equation
P + 5HNO3  H3PO4 + 5NO2 + H2O
(i) What mass of phosphoric acid can be prepared from 6.2gm of phosphorus.
(ii) What will be volume of steam produced at the same time if measured at 760
mm Hg pressure and 2730C ?
