YOUR GUIDE TO
USING JOURNALING
AS A SACRED RITUAL
Journaling is one of the most powerful tools to become who you
want to be.

Many people start with journaling as a way to vent — to air their

frustrations and annoyances, to release negative thoughts and
feelings onto the page. That’s a fine place to start, but journaling
offers so much more.

It offers you the opportunity to shift, release and heal. To connect

with the guidance of your higher self and the universe. To clarify
your desires so you can manifest your dreams.

Journaling can be a sacred ritual through which you consistently

release painful thoughts, feelings and resistance to life. This
reconnects you to your infinite self, who you really are.

As a result, you'll live your purpose and passion, and create a life
of great joy, abundance, happiness and health.

And that, here are few ways to tap into journaling’s true potential
so you can tap into your own.

1. Journal with the intention to shift

Intention is everything, and provides a direction for energy. Without intention,

it’s easy to become stagnant and confused.

A clear, focused intention, on the other hand, makes it much easier to create
forward momentum.

As an example, it’s natural to want to release pent up frustration, sadness or

anger into your journal, and this is a powerful start.

But when journaling with the intention to shift to a lighter energetic state, you
would start to ask yourself uestions.

uestions like:

How can I see this differently?

What is there to learn here?
What creative solutions of the highest good are available to me?
What is life asking of me?
What do I need to know to move through this?

2. Use journaling as a reflection tool
at life’s natural endings and beginnings.

The end of the year and the start of a new one is a powerful, natural time to
re lect, reset and reconnect.

In Soul Scroll’s Play with the Day yearly goal journal, we start off by reviewing
the year that just passed, followed by setting an intention and casting a vision for
the new year in 8 key areas of life.

Play with the Day also features space to review and set new intentions and goals
each and every month because that is another natural transition perfect for
resetting and reconnecting.

But it doesn’t stop there — you could transform a morning or evening journaling
practice into a sacred ritual for transformation by setting the intention to create
closure, release what’s no longer needed, and renew your vision and intention for
what you’re creating in life.

Other natural transitions include:

Seasonal shifts into fall, winter, spring and summer

Birthdays
Full and new moons

3. Use journaling to connect with your
higher self and receive wisdom from
beyond.

The amazing thing about journaling is that it uiets your mind down so your
soul can speak. Physiologically, this slows down your brain waves. During our
waking hours, we are mostly in fast beta waves, perfect for uick thinking.

But through journaling, you can access slower, alpha waves, which produce a
dream-like state. This allows us to receive guidance from our higher selves or
beyond, such as the universe or even departed loved ones. This guidance is
always there for us, but we have to open up to receive it by slowing down and
asking.

When you journal, get honest about how you’re feeling, and show up with the
intention to shift, you are creating space to receive these messages. Whatever you
feel comfortable receiving. Your journey is entirely up to you.

The next time you are going through something troubling, create a ritual for
yourself. You'll be so surprised at the insights and epiphanies you receive!

You can:

Light a candle.
Focus on your problem and ask for guidance.
Pull an oracle or tarot card to receive wisdom or insight.
Journal on the oracle card, allowing your pen to low.
Free write, not censoring yourself.
As you blow out the candle, do so ceremoniously, giving thanks for the
insight you have received.
