PROJECT PROPOSAL

(Online Community Immersion Plan)

NSTP 2- F (Section)

Time: _1:30-3:30 pm___

I. Project Title
‘’DENG-GET-OUT Project (DGO)”

II. Rationale
Dengue disease is caused by dengue virus. There are four serotypes of dengue which belongs to
Flaviridae family. The virus is transmitted to man by the bite of infected mosquitoes known as Aedes Aegypti
or Aedes Albopictus, which causes either dengue fever or the more severe dengue haemorrhagic fever.
Despite the progress with the development and clinical evaluation of vaccines against dengue virus infection,
no such vaccine is on the market yet and there is no specific treatment against dengue fever. Thus, controlling
the populations of dengue virus infection vector mosquitoes and limiting their dispersal is crucial to prevent
dengue virus infection transmission. The Deng-Get-Out project means the prevention and control of the
spread of dengue by promoting awareness to the community about dengue. This project is a way of bringing
knowledge, attitudes and practices concerning dengue prevention and control. The barangay has still a
problem in the management of dengue and most of the community has a lack of clarity on how to distinguish
and protect themselves from dengue. Moreover, the barangay is unaware of some of the people who lives in
their barangay because some of the people are temporarily renting in their barangay. Therefore, it is advised
that this information be included as one of the priority needs of the community. We can reduce the chances of
being infected with dengue by giving them adequate information, knowledge, and teachings about dengue.
The project will also be able to contribute to the understanding of the barangay officials as they will be able to
chalk out appropriate, meaningful, and realistic steps through developing an effective plan of action in terms
of strategy and intervention for the welfare of disadvantaged people. That is because prevention is better than
cure. Our goals are to raise general awareness, particularly young, student, adolescent, mass peoples, etc. to
reduce the number of people that is infected to dengue.

UNIVERSITY OF THE CORDILLERAS

College of Teacher Education
Center of Excellence

June 24, 2021

RICHARD L. FAGUINNEY
Sir:

Greetings!

Republic Act (RA) 9163 establishes the National Service Training Program (NSTP) for tertiary level students. The
objective of the Act is to encourage the youth to become civic leaders and volunteers who could be called upon by nation
in case their service is needed.

Unfortunately, with the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, the University of the Cordilleras was challenged to
come up with innovative strategies to adjust to the needs of the new normal. It has to consider the safety of the students,
the teachers, and the partner communities while meeting the objectives of the NSTP program.

Technology has become instrumental in this trying time; hence the possibility of attaining the NSTP objectives is
possible. The enrolled students of NSTP 2 will therefore take the opportunity to reach out to your Barangay in delivering
awareness and providing information through the use of technology such as various social media platforms.

The undersigned students are humbly requesting your good office to seek approval and support for the students in
fulfilling the objective of the said program.

6
Attached is the proposal for your reference.

Thank you and looking forward to be working with you and your good office.

Respectfully yours,

NSTP Instructor

COMMUNITY SELF-ASSESSMENT QUESTIONAIRE

1. What are the NEEDS of your community?

Needs change over time, but they’re always there. That’s why Barangay Officials exists to help address these
needs. If we are to make a collective impact in areas such as education and health, then we need to work together with
concerned agencies of the government to ensure that projects and programs have the necessary resources and
personnel needed to deliver effective results. Barangay are the smallest unit of government in our country, and also
being over utilized. If we are going to identify the needs of our community, the following needs are to be
reconsidered:
a. Approval of the proposed law entitled “Magna Carta for Barangay Officials”. If this law will be approved,
Barangay Officials, being the front line in implementing Peace and Order and the only Local Government
Unit practicing the Three Branches of Government namely, Executive, Legislative and
Judiciary will be properly compensating them;

b. Massive and continuous orientation, training and seminar on the new Programs of the Government. Some
elected Barangay Officials were not professional on their own accord. It should be anticipated that the level
of learning and understanding is depending to some factors and should be address during orientation,
seminars, and trainings.
c. As for the needs of the community per se, in Infrastructure, there is a need to have a sewer line connection in
every household. The current barangay officials saw the need of constructing sewer line, thus proposing
project to the city for funding.
d. Rehabilitation of City and Barangay roads with covered canal. This is the second priority of the barangay to
have a better access of road going to central business district and going back to their residences.
e. Lastly, the need to light up the community specially at night. The barangay council are requesting concerned
offices to provide additional street light to areas that are dim and totally dark during night time in our
barangay. There are some areas and alleys that needs additional street lights.

2. What RESOURCES does your community produces?

Typically, when someone refers to a community resource, they mean an organization that serves a particular
geographical area or group of people by providing tools to help that community grow in positive ways and improve
the quality of life for the people of that community. As such, community resources can be run or funded by the
government, businesses, non-profit groups, or even individuals and serve the community in a variety of ways.
