General Guidelines
1. Use a font type that will make easy for your examiner to read. The font size should be 12 point, and
should be in the style of Time New Roman.
2. Use 1.5 line word-processing. Left justify all paragraphs.
3. Ensure that all headings are consistent in terms of size and font style.
4. Use footer function on the word processor to insert Your Name, Subject, Assignment No, and Page
Number on each page. This is useful if individual sheets become detached for any reason.
5. Use word processing application spell check and grammar check function to help edit your assignment.
Important Points:
1. Check carefully the hand in date and the instructions given with the assignment. Late submissions will
not be accepted.
2. Ensure that you give yourself enough time to complete the assignment by the due date.
3. Don’t leave things such as printing to the last minute – excuses of this nature will not be accepted for
failure to hand in the work on time.
4. You must take responsibility for managing your own time effectively.
5. If you are unable to hand in your assignment on time and have valid reasons such as illness, you may
apply (in writing) for an extension.
6. Failure to achieve at least a PASS grade will result in a REFERRAL grade being given.
7. Non-submission of work without valid reasons will lead to an automatic REFERRAL. You will then be
asked to complete an alternative assignment.
8. Take great care that if you use other people’s work or ideas in your assignment, you properly
reference them, using the HARVARD referencing system, in you text and any bibliography, otherwise
you may be guilty of plagiarism.
9. If you are caught plagiarising you could have your grade reduced to A REFERRAL or at worst you could
be excluded from the course.
Student Declaration
I hereby, declare that I know what plagiarism entails, namely to use another’s work and to present it as my
own without attributing the sources in the correct way. I further understand what it means to copy another’s
work.

Submission Format:
The submission is in the form of an individual written report. This should be written in a concise, formal
business style using single spacing and font size 12. You are required to make use of headings,
paragraphs and subsections as appropriate, and all work must be supported with research and
referenced using the Harvard referencing system.
Report format- Please provide a referencing list using the Harvard referencing system. The
recommended word limit is minimum 4,500 words

Dissertation submitted to Esoft Metro Collage, Kalutara, Sri Lanka for the partial fulfillment of the
requirements of the BTEC Higher National Diploma in Computing
April 2020
This destination is dedicated to all the people including my parents and the lecturer
panel who had helped me in various ways for completing the Higher National Diploma
in Computing.
To do this assignment we need lot of guidance. I would like thanks all the people who help me to complete this
assignment. Specially thanks Ms. Maheesha Dashantha for the help us to complete our project. Also, I would like
to thank my class members for the encouragement and support that they gave to complete this project.

1.1 Introduction
Artificial intelligence (AI) is the ability of a computer program or a machine and learn. The computer has to learn
how to respond to certain actions, so it uses algorithms and historical data to create something called a propensity
model. Cortana is a virtual assistant created by Microsoft for cortana will use the Bing search engine and data
stored on the user’s smartphone by to make personalized recommendations.
Main Objective of this project to identify uses of windows Cortana for paralyzed people to work with computer
devices. Because it gives us the opportunity to identify what the paralyzed people need & how to help them to
doing their day to day work. With an AI based system, we can find solutions for defects occur in those patterns
and help them for better and effective usage. That is why, I have selected this topic for the project.
1.3 Motivation
When we tell something using our voice, “Cortana” realized and it react properly. For an example when “we say
what is Cortana?” then it react at the same time. So if paralyzed people need to find something they can’t type it
The theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks normally requiring human intelligence,
such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages. Presumably
the ‘A’ part of ‘AI’ isn’t the challenge: We seem to have a fairly good handle on what it means to say that
something is an artifact, or artificial. Cortana is a virtual assistant created by Microsoft . Voice assistants are
software agents that can interpret human speech and respond via synthesized voices. Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s
Alexa, Microsoft’s Cortana, and Google’s Assistant are the most popular voice assistants and are embedded in
smartphones or dedicated home speakers. Users can ask their assistants questions, control home automation
devices and media playback via voice, and manage other basic tasks such as email, to-do lists, and calendars with
verbal commands. To help both designers and people with tetraplegia fully realize the benefits of voice assistant
technology, we conducted interviews with five people with tetraplegia in the home to understand how this
population currently uses voice-based interfaces as well as other technologies in their everyday tasks. We found
that people with tetraplegia use voice assistants in specific places, such as in their beds, or when traveling in their
wheelchair. In addition, we note the inefficiencies for people with tetraplegia when using voice assistance.
1.7 Conclusion
By doing this research I can identify how help windows Cortana for paralyzed people to work with computer
devices. What are the available AI features in Cortana . Also, this research will help them identify new strategies
and opportunities in working with Cortana.

the ‘A’ part of ‘AI’ isn’t the challenge: We seem to have a fairly good handle on what it means to say that
something is an artifact, or artificial. (We can ignore here conundrums arising from self-reproducing systems,
systems that evolve without human oversight, etc.)[ CITATION SBr13 \l 1033 ]
2. Virtual Assistant
Virtual Assistant is the program of an app or a software which helps for the human activities. The specific duties
of a virtual assistant vary according to the needs of the human. virtual assistant application running on a
computer capable of receiving human voice communications from a user of a remote user interface and
transmitting a vocalization to the remote user interface, the virtual assistant application enabling the user to access
email and voicemail messages of the user[ CITATION Ulm \l 1033 ]
