Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) emphasizes the complex outcomes of a learning process

that is the knowledge, skills and attitudes to be applied by learners rather than mainly focusing

CBC is designed with the objective that at the end of each learning cycle, every learner will be

competent in the following seven core competency areas:

I. Communication and Collaboration

II. Self-efficacy

III. Creativity and Imagination

IV. Digital Literacy

V. Critical Thinking and Problem-solving

VI. Citizenship

VII. Learning to learn

2) Analyze the relevance of the competency area to the contemporary Kenya

i) Communication and Collaboration- Communication and Collaboration-this core

competency helps the students participate in lively conversations, express their opinions,
build upon other ideas, present information and evaluate another speaker’s point of view.
The learners will work together in putting their skills into use and thus improving on
every aspect in the country.

ii) Self-efficacy-this a person’s belief about his or her capabilities to perform tasks or
assignments that can change their attitude. It enables the learners to develop and nurture
intra-personal skills. This core competency will help individuals to have confidence and
boosted self-esteem which will lead to more productivity since learners will put their
capabilities into useful resources.

iii) Creativity and Imagination- This core competency enables the learners to think
creatively and come up with new innovations that will in turn make the country utilize
every resource available to be more productive. Great innovations will help in solving
various problems in the country and even improving how resources are utilized in the
country.

iv) Digital and literacy-the learners will come out as digital champions. This is the
digital era and every aspect of life requires the application of Technology. The country
will be full of individuals who will be readily available to integrate Technology in every
aspect useful to the country.

v) Critical Thinking and Problem-solving-these are necessary components of success.

Problem-solving skills are necessary at all levels in schools, leadership, workplaces and
in the society at large. This will be useful to the country since a lot of problems will be
solved amicably.

vi) Citizenship-The learners will learn to be patriots. They will love their country in
every way and utilize every resource responsibly. They will learn to fight for their
country in every way and be proud of their citizenship as Kenyans.

vii) Learning to learn-this core competency is useful in that learners will always be

and when they put all these into practice the nation will be quite productive.
