Ways in Propagating Trees and

What I Need to Know
This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help you
understand the nature of the plant. The scope of this module permits it to be used in
many different learning situations. The language used recognizes the diverse vocabulary
level of students. The lessons are arranged to follow the standard sequence of the
course.
What I Know
Directions: Identify the following tools and equipment in propagating trees and fruit
trees. Choose your answers from the box. Answer the following questions in a separate
sheet of paper.

1. A long-handled tool having a bar at one end with teeth in. It is used for
smoothening the soil and gathering loose leaves, hay, or straw.
2. A tool with a flat, sharp blade fastened to a handle used for cutting trunk
of trees and their branches.
3. A tool with a wooden or metal handle in which a long blade is attached
used for cutting tall grasses and branches of trees.
4. A tool resembling a table fork but much bigger in size. It is used in digging
and preparing the soil for the plants.
5. Used to transfer soil plants and other materials from one place to another.

Today, propagating plants like ornamentals, trees, and fruit trees is fast becoming a
booming business. The place where fruit trees are propagated is called nursery. Today,
there are plant nurseries along highways, besides roads and streets, and inside towns
and cities. With perseverance, hard work, and creativity, the plant nursery becomes a
profitable business. As a requirement, you need adequate knowledge and skills in
planting and taking care of the plants.

Planting trees is a productive and enjoyable activity that can be turned into an
occupation or a hobby. Successful tree-planting requires some knowledge about trees,
what they need and how they grow, and some skill on when and how to plant and take
care of them. Our love for nature and the environment is best shown when we plant
trees.

order to work well.
2. Always wear complete personal protective protective equipment which
includes hairnet, hand gloves, apron, boots if needed, protective eyeglass,
and face mask.
3. Make sure tools and equipment are working properly before using them.
4. Always follow instructions for use of equipment.
5. Focus on the work at hand. Do not allow yourself to get distracted.
6. Know your limits in working, seek help whenever necessary.
7. Work in proper position. Make sure you do not strain your back while
working.

Additional Activities
Instructions: At home, find an empty container, could be a broken basin or pail. Fill it
with soil and place it in a vacant space at home free from animals and other children.
Be sure that sunlight can penetrate well. Germinate any seed available. It could be an
ampalaya seed, tomato, pepper or mongo. Apply the scientific ways in propagation. After
2 weeks, take a photo of your output and send it to your Teacher. For those who do not
have an access to internet, narrate what happened to your output. Measure the length
of the seedling and write your narration in a piece of paper. Pass it to your teacher as
you claim your next module.
