Fingerprint Based Exam Hall Authentication 2020-21

ABSTRACT
Motivation

The authentication plays a major role in any system of the world. Examination system is one
them. The most authentication approach applied in those systems is identity-based
authentication. Though, the reality in a lot of developed examination system is that the
identity-based authentication is not enough to verify the student identification. Also, the
practice hall ticket system has led to several malpractices and identity-theft.

One of authentication solution is the biometric processing based on iris or fingerprint data.
Because of cost related issues, fingerprint has been adopted as an automatic data analysis for
identification. Fingerprint based authentication has a more advantage over hall-ticket based
authentication, since it is possible to access the hall-ticket of a student from unauthorized
person and misuse it in serious events like examinations. Using fingerprint data does not
mean that exam system avoids using the hall ticket and identity card authentication. In
addition to these, examination system will be protected, boosted and made strong by using
biometric process like fingerprint data.

Hence, this mini project is done to reduce impersonation and identity theft in examination
halls by verifying biometric feature of the candidate.

Objective of the project

We propose a fingerprint based examination hall authentication system. The system is
designed to pass only users verified by their fingerprint scan and block non verified users.
Our system consists of a fingerprint scanner connected to a microcontroller circuit. In
registration mode pushbuttons are used so that the system allows to register users and save
their identity with respective id numbers in the system memory.
After storage the person needs to first scan his finger on the scanner. The microcontroller
now checks the persons fingerprint validity. If the fingerprint is authorized the
microcontroller now sends a signal to the LCD display .

section and unauthorized users are not allowed to enter without any human intervention.

 Power supply:The system need regulated DC power supply to power the

components and the power need to be regulated because, this component need stable
power supply and at the certain limit.

 Fingerprint module:Fingerprint scanner uses a light-sensitive microchip to

produce a digital image. The working principle of the fingerprint sensor mainly
depends on the processing. Fingerprint processing mainly includes two elements
namely enrolment and matching. In fingerprint enrolling, every user requires to place
the finger twice. We can store the images in fingerprint module.

 Microcontroller:In this project microcontroller is used to store the program and

through micro controller we can send the signal to the LCD, Buzzer, motor.

 LCD:It nothing but Liquid crystal display, we use 16x2 crystal display to show
message for users.

 Buzzer:It is used for indication purpose, when fingerprint is not matched with the
stored fingerprint then buzzer sounds.

Required Hardware
 Arduino UNO microcontrollerboard.
