Introductory Message

For the facilitator:

This module was collaboratively designed, developed and evaluated by the
Development and Quality Assurance Teams of SDO TAPAT to assist you in helping the
learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their
personal, social, and economic constraints in schooling.
As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module. You
also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage their
own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the learners as
they do the tasks included in the module.
For the learner:
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for
guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled to
process the contents of the learning resource while being an active learner.
The following are some reminders in using this module:
1. Use the module with care. Do not put unnecessary mark/s on any part of the
module. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises.
2. Don’t forget to answer Let’s Try! before moving on to the other activities included
in the module.
3. Read the instruction carefully before doing each task.
4. Observe honesty and integrity in doing the tasks and checking your answers.
5. Finish the task at hand before proceeding to the next.
6. Return this module to your teacher/facilitator once you are through with it.

If you encounter any difficulty in answering the tasks in this module, do not hesitate
to consult your teacher or facilitator. Always bear in mind that you are not alone.
We hope that through this material, you will experience meaningful learning and gain
deep understanding of the relevant competencies. You can do it!

- applies concepts on the steps/procedure in silkscreen printing
- produces own prints from original design to silkscreen printing to convey a
message or statement.

Look at the two artworks below. Can you see the difference? Can you identify
which one is done by hand and which one is done using a computer software?

Do you see the elements and principles of art applied in both artworks? Whether
an artwork is done by hand or using a computer, the elements and principles of art are
applied.

When a piece of art is created, you see the different elements of art applied. You
see different colors of various tones applied. Different shapes are used to form an
object. These elements are applied even when using new technologies.
Colors and Tones
Colors make a drawing or painting attractive and beautiful. But using a single
color may not be pleasing.
Blending several colors to form a new color makes the artwork more attractive.

What is Printmaking?
Printmaking is the process of creating art by transferring an image or
design from a source onto another material. Prints are made from a single original plate
or surface, called a “ matrix”. Matrix can be a metal plate, stone wood blocks, linoleum,
fabric, and others. Whatever material or process is used in printing , the purpose of
printmaking is to make an artwork that can be reproduced many times.
These are Four processes in printmaking:

Relief Printing Intaglio Printing

The raised areas hold ink. The incised areas hold ink.

Lithography Screen printing

What is Silkscreen Printing?

Silkscreen printing is one of the methods in printing. It uses a stencil to apply ink
onto another material. It can be on fabric or t-shirts. It can be on paper, wood, vinyl, or
any other material that absorbs ink.

What do you need in silkscreen printing?

Design printed on transparency Mesh Screen

Liquid Emulsion Squeegee Fabric paint

How is silkscreen painting done?

1. Prepare a design and print on 2. Prepare the mesh screen. Coat it with light
transparency. sensitive emulsion.
3. Position the printed film over the screen 4. Rinse off the excess emulsion. Once you
and expose it to a very bright light source. have all the screen exposed and cleaned,
you are ready to print.

5. Place screen over t-shirt. Apply ink, any 6. Using a blow dryer, dry ink on t-shirt.

__false_ 2. The use of technology in artworks made the task easier.
__true__ 3. Technology made the printing of original designs even slower than manual
printing.
__True___4. The principles of art are only applied when drawing on a piece of paper.
_True____5. Design principles still apply to new designs.

Do it yourself activity.
 You will need:
1. T- shirt
2. Mesh screen
3. A design printed on a transparency
4. Textile paint
5. Squeegee
6. Blow dryer ( opt. )
 What to do:
