Understanding The Self

Introduction and Module 1

“GETTING TO KNOW YOU: MY HOME, MY SCHOOL”
Introduction
“If you don’t know yourself, you don’t have the right to know others.”

Self-knowledge is the beginning of everything which seeks to answer the question “What
am I like?”

Self-knowledge, sometimes also being referred to as self awareness, refers to understanding

your needs, habits, failings, characteristics, desires and everything that makes who you are.
Introduction
Self-awareness is one of the first components of the self-concept to emerge.

While self-awareness is the thing that is centered to who you exist, it is not something that
you are sharply concentrated on in every minute of every time.

It grows interwoven into the fabric of who you are and emerges at various levels
depending on the place and the personality.

People are not born entirely self-aware but babies may have a grasp of self-awareness. AT
times, they are aware of their own body and able to discern physical contact.
Introduction
Self-awareness plays a vital role in how we deal and understand ourselves and how we
relate to other people and to the world in general.

It allows one person to evaluate the self in relation to others.

It also helps in knowing your own limitations, enhances your abilities, helps in taking
responsibility for self-actions and gives a different perception towards the most intrinsic yet
important aspects of life.
Overview
This module will serve as an introduction of the student to the university and to the
members of his / her class. This covers activities about the mission and vision of the
university, the school march, and getting to know the members of the class.

At the end of the module, the student will be able to:

1. Explain the institution’s mission and vision and core values;
2. Know the members of the class by wholeheartedly listening during sharing sessions
3. Demonstrate self-understanding and self-acceptance.
Overview
What do you know about PNC?

What did you hear about the university among your friends and contacts in social media?

Read and understand the PNC Mission, Vision and Core Values.
Overview
“PnC did not choose you. You chose PnC.”

Your SHS life might have been exciting and fun. College can be like that, too, but it offers
more challenges. How you fit at PNC, the community, and its origins can help influence
the role you’d want to have soon.

This is an entirely new world as you are a step away from your professional life.

Several questions will be asked as you start this semester;

• What is “Understanding the Self ”?
• Is it important in the curriculum?
• How will this subject help you to become a better person?
Activity 1: Sharing Oneself

Share yourself with others by providing the following information:

- your name
- your positive attribute or characteristic that begins with the first letter of
your first name
- the reason for studying in this institution
- your feeling to be in this class
- one unique trait that you possess
Assignment #1: My Personal Mission Statement

A personal mission statement is a 1-2 sentence motto that shows how you define yourself
as a person.

It identifies your personal purpose and presents why it is important to you.

Make your own personal mission statement in relation to the institution’s mission, vision
and core values.
Assignment #2: PnC, Dangal ng Bayan

Watch, listen and memorize the PnC March and be ready to sing it next online meeting.
