I. Objectives
At the end of this lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Understand the basic principles of graphics and layout; and
2. Describe and elaborate every principle involved of graphics and layout design.
II. Subject Matter
A. Topic: Imaging and Design for Online Environment

III. Procedure
A. Drill/Review:
1. Students will take a pre-test in order to determine how much they know about
advanced processing tools using various software applications of Microsoft Office
which includes the following but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel
and Microsoft PowerPoint.
B. Activity
1. Discuss the topics about the basic principles of graphics and layout.
C. Analysis
Ask the students what are the different principles involved in graphics and layout.
1. What are the basic principles of graphics and layout? Give six (6) of them.
D. Abstraction
Make a generalization about the basic principles of graphics and layout.
1. What is Balance?
2. What is Emphasis?
3. What is Movement?
4. What is Pattern/Repetition/Rhythm?
5. What is Proportion?
6. What is Variety?
E. Application
Ask the students with their opinions regarding with the concepts of visual graphics and
layout.
1. Why is it that the elements of the webpage should be properly balanced?
2. Why do some elements need to attract the viewer’s attention?
3. Why is there a need to guide the viewer’s eyes around the screen?
4. Why is there a need that the elements should be well-organized in the screen?
5. Why does one element need to have a relation with another element?

Provide a group activity to differentiate the principles of graphics and layout.
Directions: Create a table with four (4) columns. Identify the properties of every
principle of graphics and layout. Answer the questions per column.

of the tools at the back of the paper.
G. Assignment
With the procedure already provided in creating a simple infographic using Piktochart,
the students will form a group and create a simple infographics with the design and
concept of their choice.
Directions: Form a group. Access the Internet and go to link www.piktochart.com.
Create a simple infographic using the Piktochart editor. Export the
infographic as an image and upload it via Facebook. Post the image and
provide the description of your infographic. List all the members of your
group. Append your post with the Hashtag #emptechinfo.

3. Easily manipulate images using PhotoScape.

A. Drill/Review:
1. Students will take a short review about the concepts and use of infographics, as well
as creating infographics using Piktochart.
B. Activity
1. Discuss the topics about the different image file formats used in the Internet.
2. Discuss the concepts of image manipulation using PhotoScape.
C. Analysis
Ask the students about the differences of online image file formats and the principles of
image manipulation.
1. What is the difference of JPG and GIF images in terms of image texture?
2. What are the image file formats that support transparency?
3. What are the image file formats that support animation?
4. What are the tips to help in editing images for a website? Give three (3) of them.
5. It is an easy photo editing software that enables you to fix and enhance photos. What
is the name of this software?

using any picture of their choice:
a. Make the image appear black and white.
b. Apply the image some glitter and sparkle.
c. Censor some part of the image.

Make a generalization about understanding the techniques of combining text and images.
1. Provide a solution to the following situations regarding
combining text and images.
a. The text is difficult to read and is placed on
the flower. The contrast between the white
color of the text and the lightest shades with
the flower prevents the eyes from effortlessly
distinguish the letterforms. How do you
resolve this?

b. The position (in addition to a bad choice of the


color, of course) detracts from the rendering of
the image. The color — probably too similar
to the ground tone — and the position of the
text at the bottom, constitutes two choices that
have a negative impact on users’ eye.

c. The text is placed on the focus section of the


image. However, it distracts the viewer
whether the priority is on the text or on the
image.

Ask the students about the use and features of image hosting.
1. What is image hosting?

It is one of the oldest image hosting sites ever been used.

Make a generalization about uploading and sharing using Photobucket.

Ask the students regarding with the importance of the techniques in combining text and
images.
1. Why is it that sharing images has never been so easy using social media?
2. What are the advantages and benefits of using image hosts on the Internet?

Provide a group activity for the students to be familiarized with different application
software used in visual graphics and online imaging using social media.
Directions: Get a short-sized bond paper. Divide the paper in three columns. On each
column, enumerate all of the uses of the particular software application
on the following list:
i. Piktochart
ii. PhotoScape
iii. Photobucket
G. Assignment
The students will have to upload a sample picture using Photobucket as the image host
for the files. Once their photos are uploaded on the storage in the said application, they
will be sharing it on Facebook using the steps provided in the discussion.
Directions: Access the Facebook and Photobucket accounts. Follow the steps:
1.) Using Photobucket, upload at least two pictures. Complete
the steps provided in uploading and sharing pictures using
Photobucket in the discussion.
2.) Upon the last step, share the picture on Facebook with the
hashtag #emptechimghost appended on the description.
