I think that you can guess the topic I want to talk about today after watching this video. Yes, it is
about “School bullying” which is one of the hottest issues nowadays as it has increased
dramatically over the past few years. The statistic which was given recently by Ministry of
Education and Training in Vietnam showed that there were about 1,600 school violence
situations happened in one school year, 5 circumstances each day on average. It has alarmed
the government and citizens to find ways to handle this problem. Therefore, in my
presentation, I would like to discuss with you a few causes and solutions to this problem.

First of all, the main reason that cause school-bullying is from social media. Today, it is so easy
for children to get access to television programs or Hollywood movies that they can be affected
by shooting and killing scenes. This explains why children who view those are tend to imitate
them. Besides, songs, video games with sensitive lyrics and images about gangster and drugs
also have bad effects to our young generation. Children may have trouble distinguishing
between reality and fantasy. They begin to obsess over killing or injuring other.
Secondly, schools or educational environments play an important role in the cause of school
violence. You will study and behave well if your classmates are good children. But if your
classmates are naughty, you will be involved in their bad activities and become naughty, too.
Another case is if your teacher does not teach well and always rail students, you will be
stressful and will not have interest in learning. There have been events in which teacher
insulted or even fought student, they absolutely harmed both physical and mental status of
students.
Finally, family risk factors are one of the most important things affect children’s behaviors.
When living in a family which parents often have arguments, the children will feel unhappy or
unpleasant. It will lead to negative behaviors, especially in teenager age when awareness of
them have not improved completely. They tend to repeat the parent’s behaviors and if they are
bad behaviors, the effects are serious obviously. In addition, broken family relationships can
limit the ability to grow of children such as communication skills, self-esteem and happiness.

In order to solve this problem, I think we need a joining hand from family, school and society.
The first and most important recommendation is to raise extensive knowledge about negative
influences of school violence. About the effects of media, we can reduce violence by letting the
competent authorities to tighten the unsuitable content. Also, parents must have responsibility
in controlling their children on watching age-restricted movies or playing violent video games.
On school aspect, school should be a safe enviroment for students to get knowledge and
perfect personality. The teachers should not only teach students but also support and guide
them to do the right things. Last but not least, on family aspect, parents can start by being good
role models for their children. Parents should be very involved in their children’s life, talk to
them in order to make clear that they are not suffered from any kind of bullying.
In conclusion, the causes of violence in school are classified into three main categories
including: media, school and family risk factors. However, if everyone shares a hand help
reduce school violence, everything will be better.

tiếp cận với các chương trình truyền hình hoặc phim Hollywood quá dễ dàng đến nỗi chúng có
thể bị ảnh hưởng bởi các cảnh bắn giết. Điều này giải thích tại sao trẻ em xem những thứ đó có
xu hướng bắt chước chúng. Bên cạnh đó, các bài hát, trò chơi điện tử có ca từ, hình ảnh nhạy
cảm về xã hội đen và ma túy cũng gây ảnh hưởng xấu đến thế hệ trẻ chúng ta. Trẻ em có thể
gặp khó khăn khi phân biệt giữa thực tế và tưởng tượng. Họ bắt đầu ám ảnh về việc giết hoặc
làm bị thương người khác.
Thứ hai, trường học hay môi trường giáo dục đóng vai trò quan trọng trong nguyên nhân dẫn
đến bạo lực học đường. Bạn sẽ học tập và cư xử tốt nếu các bạn trong lớp là con ngoan trò giỏi.
Nhưng nếu bạn cùng lớp của bạn nghịch ngợm, bạn sẽ tham gia vào các hoạt động xấu của họ
và trở nên nghịch ngợm. Một trường hợp khác là nếu giáo viên của bạn dạy không tốt và luôn
dạy dỗ học sinh, bạn sẽ căng thẳng và không có hứng thú học tập. Đã có những trường hợp giáo
viên xúc phạm, thậm chí đánh học sinh, họ làm tổn hại nghiêm trọng đến thể chất và tinh thần
của học sinh.
Cuối cùng, các yếu tố nguy cơ gia đình là một trong những yếu tố quan trọng nhất ảnh hưởng
đến hành vi của trẻ. Khi sống trong một gia đình mà cha mẹ hay cãi nhau, con cái sẽ cảm thấy
không vui hoặc khó chịu. Nó sẽ dẫn đến những hành vi tiêu cực, đặc biệt là ở lứa tuổi thanh
thiếu niên khi nhận thức về chúng chưa được cải thiện hoàn toàn. Chúng có xu hướng lặp lại
các hành vi của cha mẹ và nếu chúng là những hành vi xấu, ảnh hưởng của chúng là nghiêm
trọng rõ ràng. Ngoài ra, mối quan hệ gia đình tan vỡ có thể hạn chế khả năng phát triển của trẻ
như kỹ năng giao tiếp, lòng tự trọng và hạnh phúc.
Để giải quyết vấn đề này, tôi nghĩ cần có sự chung tay của gia đình, nhà trường và xã hội.
Khuyến nghị đầu tiên và quan trọng nhất là nâng cao kiến thức sâu rộng về những ảnh hưởng
tiêu cực của bạo lực học đường. Về tác động của truyền thông, chúng ta có thể giảm thiểu bạo
lực bằng cách để các cơ quan có thẩm quyền siết chặt những nội dung không phù hợp. Ngoài
ra, cha mẹ phải có trách nhiệm kiểm soát con cái xem phim giới hạn độ tuổi hoặc chơi trò chơi
điện tử bạo lực. Về khía cạnh học đường, trường học phải là môi trường an toàn để học sinh có
được tri thức và hoàn thiện nhân cách. Giáo viên không chỉ dạy học sinh mà còn phải hỗ trợ và
hướng dẫn các em làm những điều đúng đắn. Cuối cùng nhưng không kém phần quan trọng, về
khía cạnh gia đình, cha mẹ có thể bắt đầu bằng việc trở thành tấm gương tốt cho con cái. Cha
mẹ nên tham gia nhiều vào cuộc sống của con cái họ, nói chuyện với chúng để làm rõ rằng
chúng không bị bất kỳ hình thức bắt nạt nào.
Kết luận, nguyên nhân của bạo lực trong học đường được phân thành ba loại chính bao gồm:
phương tiện truyền thông, trường học và các yếu tố nguy cơ gia đình. Tuy nhiên, nếu mọi người
cùng chung tay góp sức giảm thiểu bạo lực học đường thì mọi chuyện sẽ tốt đẹp hơn.

Violence is a major problem in schools nowadays. It has increased dramatically over the past
few years. As we can see on the internet, there are thousands of school-violent video posted
every day. It is occured at many different ages and become more and more frightful. The main
reasons that cause this problem are effects of media, school’s problems and parent’s
upbringing. However, there are various way to reduce this problem.
Firstly, many experts, parents and critics have blamed violent media for causing school violence.
It is a part of youths culture. However, social media nowadays is rife with violences and evils.
Television programs and Hollywood movies with shooting and killing scenes are appeared so
many times that makes children think it as a very normal thing. These violent scenes and
sequences are performed so attractive and they are rewarded instead of punished. This
explains why children who view those are tend to imitate them. Music is also a factor of school
violence. Songs with suggestive and sensitive lyrics about gangster and drugs have bad effects
to our young generation. Moreover, violent video games contribute to school violence in much
of the same way movies do. Children may have trouble distinguishing between reality and
fantasy. They begin to obsess over killing or injuring other.
Next, schools play an important role in the cause of school violence. A school is a place where
children are taught the right things in life, but the life for middle and high school students has
never been easy. Young people have always had to deal with study preassures, extracurricular
demands and conflicts with other students. They risk related to such things as early delinquent
behaviors, academic failures, lack of commitment to school, and gang involvement. Moreover,
being bullied and teased by others can offten lead to violent revenge or retribution. This makes
students feel insulted, isolated and easy to acts without thinking. As we can see on the
newspaper or social media, this factor showed up frequently in school violence nowadays.
It is widely argued maintained that learning violent behaviors can come from usual or abnormal
home life. History of family crime and violence, lack of expectations and monitorings by parents
and parental involvement in drugs, child abuse can cause violent condition in children. Because
parents are the ones who raised the child and filled them with their beliefs of what’s right and
wrong, the child will follow them blindly. How can a child becomes a good person if he or she
lives in such a bad condition? In addition, broken family relationships can also be a major factor.
Those parents do not spend time with their children enough due to busy work and each
member’s life. Therefore, they cannot fulfil upbringing their children in the right way. This will
cause children to form the mindset that they can do anything without punished or
reprimanded. Also, if children see parents acting disrespectful towards others, they will grow up
with the mentality that they can treat others like that too.
Since violence in school is one of the hottest issues nowadays, no one can ensure that they can
stop it. However, prevention is the key to solve this problem. The first and most important

of school violence. Children must be aware of people around them and be able to spot
something that isn’t quite right before it escalates. About the effects of media, we can reduce
violence by letting the competent authorities to tighten the content, and reshaping unsuitable
social media. Also, parents must have responsibility in controlling their children on watching
unsuitable movies or playing violent video games. On school aspect, school should be a safe
enviroment for students to get knowledge and perfect personality. The teachers and educators
should not only teach students but also support and guide them to do the right things. And,
schools should organize may outdoor activities so that students can communicate and make
friend to others. Last but not least, on family aspect, patents can start by being good role
models, refraining from violence themselves and solving their problems peacefully. Parents
should also be very involved in their children’s life, talk to them, ask them about their thoughts
and fears, in orther to make clear that they are not suffered from any kind of bulying. One
cannot solve the problem completely, yet, if everyone extends a hand to help reducing school
violence, everything will be better.

2. Discussion of findings

This issue has increased rapidly in quantity, range, serious level. It happens not only in male but
also in female, not only among students but also between students and teachers. Because of its
seriousness, violence is school is becoming a significant issue which is mentioned fluently in
websites, books, magazines, on television or even is reflected in films. For example, a
Vietnamese film which is shown in Tet holiday of 2011 had the name “School ghost”. This film
talked about problems in school’s life especially school violence. So there were lots of
aggressive scene, even a scene in which female students attacked and ripped other student’s
shirts. The film warned people about the serious problems which still exist in school and called
the support to solve them. First of all, we must know exactly what the causes are. Actually,
school violence results from many reasons.
First of all, family members are the closest relatives to a person so they have significant effects
on that person. When living in a family which parents often have rows, the children will feel
unpleasant, unhappy or even stressful. It will lead to negative behaviors, especially in teenager
age when awareness of them have not improved completely. The younger the children are, the

communicate much with your classmates and teachers. You will study and behave well if your

from family or community. It will make children have wrong behaviors or attitudes toward an
issue such as using violence to solve a problem or conflict between classmates. Killing others
because of small conflict on a social network, Facebook is a regrettable story between a nine-
grade student and a eleven-grade student in Ha Long, Quang Ninh (Hoang 2013). It is a typical
example which shows the seriousness of school violence and calls the support from community
immediately.
2.2. What are the consequences
Consequences which school violence causes are really frightened. It impacts on many aspects.
To students themselves, both victims and people who cause will have bad consequences.
Victims can be injured slightly or seriously and even lead to death. Moreover, they often have
mental injury, feel bored, worried, lonely and depressed. The scare or haunt can make them
feel stressful. It lasts for a long time and victims cannot concentrate on studying and do not
want to take part in other activities with friends. People who cause violence must be
responsible for what they have done. How they are disciplined depends on the serious level of
violence they cause, be dismissed from school or even sentenced to prison. Since they are

country open market with globalization trend, effects from other countries are inevitable. Good
things of our culture are fading and virtue is ruined gradually. That school violence occurs not
only in schools but outside as well causes disorderly issue. If we don’t have immediate
measures to address this problem, it will spread out rapidly and affect the nation’s prosperity.
2.3. How to solve this problem
Students are the future of a nation so the demand of finding solutions is the priority of both
school and authorities. In addition, the support from children and their family also plays a
crucial role. Without them, all attempts may never successful. No single discipline alone can
prevent violence. A complex problem such as violence must be prevented through a
combination of approaches (Barrois 2001).
A child is never born as arrogant or timid, it is the atmosphere around him which affects him
much. The parents will face the bad consequences happening to their children if they do not
give the necessary care and education because they are the closest people to children. On a
violence website www.nssc1.org, the author said that parents should check their children as
much as possible and discuss about the habits and behaviors their children should develop or
adapt to. From an early age, parents should monitor and adjust appropriately if their children
act wrongly. School administrations should be strict on regulating rules, students harsh
punishments should be avoided especially violent behaviors and teaching solutions should be
advised, the way which teachers and students communicate should be enhanced to create a
comfortable in studying. Being as a friend of student is also necessary. Arguably, schools and
teachers can identify unusual behavior in students. After all, teachers spend hours each day
with students, develop relationships, and can likely talk to kids about what’s on their minds
( Anderson 2011). But the most important factor is student’s awareness themselves, they
should know which behavior is good, which is bad to adjust and choose good friend to play
with.
3. Conclusion
The findings above reveal that school violence in Vietnam and other parts all over the world is
more and more serious. It damaged much not only the educational system, cultural beauty but
also the future of a country. Sadly, there are many causes of this issue and they cannot be
solved soon. However, with the raising of awareness and measures from authorities, we hope
that this problem will decrease significantly and students can study well in friendly educational
environments.
