Digital Image Processing: Dr. Lavdie RADA

Digital Image Processing involves using computer algorithms to manipulate digital images. A digital image is composed of pixels that each have a location and intensity value. Digital imaging allows post-processing of images by manipulating pixel values to correct image properties or extract information.

Digital Image Processing

Introduction

Dr. Lavdie RADA

Images-Digital Images

• An image is a two-dimensional function f(x,y), where x and y

are the spatial (plane) coordinates, and the value
(amplitude) of f at any pair of coordinates (x,y) is called the
intensity of the image at the given coordinates (x,y) .

• If x,y and the amplitude values of f are finite and discrete

quantities, we call the image a digital image. A digital image
is composed of a finite number of elements called pixels.
Each pixel has a particular location and value.

Sources of Digital Images

• The principal source for the images is the

electromagnetic (EM) energy spectrum.

Electromagnetic (EM) energy spectrum is not the only source in order to
produce images.
Ultrasound Imaging is a sound cycle pressure with in a upper frequency of our
hearing. It is considered as Nondestructive Evaluation(NDE).

Summary
Digital imaging enables the post-process of a given image,
which means the ability of manipulating the pixel shades to
correct image density\ contrast or get a certain information
from the image pixels.
