Executive Summary:
Abdul Monem Limited is one of the leading diversified business conglomerates of Bangladesh.
The honorable Managing Director and Chairman Mr. Abdul Monem had established the
organization in the year 1956. The core strength of the organization is rooted in the capacity to
gather the resources to complete infrastructure projects on a grand scale. Over a successful
period, AML has not just developed a wealth of experience in infrastructure and development
project arena in order to meet the international standards of quality and services, it has also
become the bottler of Coca Cola, the producer of number one ice-cream brand Igloo, Igloo milk
and dairy products, Igloo food items and snacks, manufacturer of pharmaceuticals, maker of auto
bricks, bitumen and other selected construction materials. It also established AM Sugar Refinery
Ltd., AM Rice Bran Oil etc.

Origin of the Report:
Our course teacher Mr. Kamrul Hassan has assigned us this report writing task as a partial
fulfillment of MGT101 course requirements.
We are attending a course called Principles of Management for which we are writing this report
to apply our theoretical knowledge on practical organizations through analyses.
Scope:
This study focuses on the Understanding and analyzes various concepts, tools and techniques of
strategic management to evaluate over AMLS Strategy. It also throws light upon managerial
functions, but not on other functions like marketing or finance.

History:
Abdul Monem Limited is one of the largest Bangladeshi industrial organizations. Abdul Monem
founded the company in 1956. Abdul Monem Limited was established by Abdul Monem, A
veteran civil engineer, a pioneer Industrial leader in the private sector of Bangladesh. The group
is currently made up of more than 20 different companies. The industries under this company
include beverages, sugar refinery, consumer products, real estate, construction materials etc. It
has also set up one of Bangladesh's first and largest private economic zones. The company is the
official bottler of Coca-Cola in Bangladesh.

Mission:
The mission of Abdul Monem Limited defines their roadmap. They excel to develop and deliver
the value added goods and services to their esteemed customers, consistently outperform their
peers, build enduring relationship with their business associate and stakeholders, provide a
dynamic and challenging environment for our employees and aim to achieve incremental growth
of the business to have a positive and economic impact on the community and nation.
Vision:
The vision of Abdul Monem Limited materializes their roadmap. They are aimed at contributing
the economic, social and environment progress and prosperity of Bangladesh through optimum
use of their recourses applied in constant development of their social value-added products and
services.
Goal:
Guided by the vision, AML believes in ensuring long term existence by being profitable,
successful and sustainable. This is achieved by the company’s commitments in providing value
adding products and services demonstrate the company’s commitment to use resources
optimally. The goal of Abdul Monem Limited for the future is to do continues improvement in
their business policies and producers to achieve the highest quality works for the betterment of
the society. Reduce cost through the integration of technology at all levels. Also become world’s
largest construction company.
Strategy:

In the construction business Abdul Monem Limited was always on the top of their game. It was
leading construction company in Bangladesh for decades and their business was not just in
Bangladesh but also in courtiers of Middle East as well. As their strategy is to work in the
biggest projects of the country using new technology and reduce waste and cost. They also tends
to be involved in many big constructions by their materials such as trucks, excavators, generators
etc. In their beverage business they also had a monopoly in the market with Coke, Sprite, and
Fanta etc. So they never had to collaborate with any other company for their beverage items and
with their beverage business, however since AML is authorized for distributing its products only
in half of the regions of the country, they made a strategic alliance with the enterprise, Tabani
Beverage, that distributes on the other half of the country. According to this alliance, AML will
provide and supply Tabani Beverage with all the products they need and Tabani Beverage is only
authorized to distribute those to its own territory. And for the other food business they are now
trying to implement market development and product development strategies.

Ethics and CSR:
Business ethics for Abdul Monem group was always been being a honest and non-corrupt
organization in the construction business. Business Ethics for the beverage industry mainly
comes from the health perspective. All the ingredients used in the production of Coca Cola under
AML are strictly monitored by the Coca Cola Company, USA. Any violation from the required
standard would result in a cancellation of the license.
As for the social responsibility, AML runs one madrasa, one college and one Etimkhana for the
poor people of the village Brijesswar in Brahmanbaria under the financing of AML Foundation.
AML Foundation is also engaged in providing micro finance to the poor of the village. Other
than that, AML runs relief works and provides pure drinking water in any case of natural
disaster. In the Covid-19 pandemic AML did a lot of charity work around the country. They
helped the people in need with food and financial support.

Abdul Monem Limited’s fundamental promise is ‘touching lives…building capabilities…!’ The

company primary plan for the future is to use our valuable resources in order to create value-
added products and services, which would contribute to the economic, social and environmental
progress and prosperity of Bangladesh.
As by their future plans they have so projects to do Such as the construction of national
highways with 4 lanes, construction of highway of Bhatia Para-Gopalgang-Moliahat including
Gopalgang bypass.
AML is also have plans to expand their business in newer fields such as power generation,
transmitting and exploring of gas. AML always have high level in standard in its work following
the specification requirements.

future city which will have everything sufficiently.
As an organization Abdul Monem Limited has a good practice on planning and decision making
decision to achieve success. AML strives to set up well defined and obtainable strategic and
financial objectives while keeping in mind the long range and short range goals. To maintain an
organizational profile that is trustworthy to all its stakeholders, AML gives more priority to
provide a uniform balance on all objective fronts.
Abdul Monem Limited makes decision on the basis of the needs of their customers and to do
well for the economy and the country. Because AML is one of the largest countries in
Bangladesh so they also do have to take care about the country’s economy because their business
makes a big impact on that. The decision of AML is made on keeping the alliances and the
distributors strategies keeping in head. Because they have collaboration with bigger companies
such as Coca-Cola. Tabani beverage and they also make decision on the basis of World Bank

because they have a good financial relation with the international banks as well. So the overall
strategies of the company is made on the basis or keeping in head about a lot of factors.
As we know Abdul Monem Limited already has hands on more than one business so they have a
very diverse structure in managing their Business. AML implement different type of
management structure in different business. Such as they use Matrix management structure in
their beverage plants and production. In this organization they have different research teams
which are managed by upper level managers and have teams for the production as well as sale
and all of them are managed by a manager who then reports straight to the head of the division.
In their construction business AML uses divisional structure to control their business because
they have construction business in many countries in the world. The CEO gets the reports of
their business from the country heads of their construction business who are appointed to
maintain the work of each division of construction business.
Being an of the biggest company of Bangladesh Abdul Monem Limited have a large size in
organization structure. It creates a huge job opportunity not just in Bangladesh but also outside of
Bangladesh because of their worldwide business expansion and in every field. Currently it has
employees over 10000+.

As the founder of Abdul Monem Limited said “We at Abdul Monem Limited put our
philosophy and principles into our day-to-day business practices.” AML has a saying in
their corporate sector which is “Our people are our strength” which indicates the company
gives much priority to their people as in employees who works for AML. Hence, the company
prioritizes to nurture and provide them with the opportunities to achieve their maximum
competence. AML also express preeminent desire to serve the needs of our valued customers,
business partners and the society in general by being responsible in creating and delivering
valuable products, services and business practices. AML as a company believes in sustainable
development by investing in the future of people, of business, of society and of nation as a
whole. Thus, they continuously explore ways to progress and elevate practices, standards and
expectations. By these ways AML motivates the employees of the organization to work with the
full potential.
Leadership Style:
Again because Abdul Monem Limited is a big organization it has to implement different types of
leadership strategies for different division of the company. But in the upper management of the
organization they use most of the Authoritative leadership style to manage and to motivate the
employees. AML has the leader total controls and who makes plans strategies and implements
them to the company works and the lower management manages the employees to do the work
and fulfill the company goals. The plan and work comes from the upper management and
spreads down in the middle management and from them to the lower management. This style of
leadership helps the company to focus on one goal and help manage the work on the basis of the
upper management.

Control Mechanism:
Abdul Monem Limited has a basic control mechanism in the corporate sector where it has a
strong chain of command throughout the whole organization. It manages its work given by the
upper level manager to each other. The upper level or the board sets plans and makes decisions
for the company and they get the mid-level managers to do the work and the mid-level managers
then control the lower level managers of each division of work. The lower level manages then
distributes the works on the orders and implements to produce products. The organization
implements these controls by for steps 1. Establish standards, 2. Measure performance, 3
compare performance to standards, and then 4 take corrective action as needed.
Organizational Culture:
The culture that Abdul Monem Limited uses is Hierarchy oriented cultures are structured and
controlled, with a focus on efficiency, stability and “doing things right. AML is a big
organization and in its corporate sectors it uses Hierarchy which completely focuses on the
efficiently to do the work with a short time and within the lowest cost and maintains a complete
corporate stability in the organization.

seen tremendous success since its establishment. It has been possible because of skilled
management, well training, and dedicated employees with a excellent quality of products. It has
earned very impressive operating income over previous years. The company tries to hold good
corporate relation with its alliances and collaborators which are mostly from international
market. It also has a good reputation in the mind of the government because it has a huge imact
on the growing economy of Bangladesh. The company holds a good relation with the corporate
world by maintaining discipline and sincerely all over the organization through its skilled and
dedicated work done by them. The role of internal audit in AML is enormous. These factors
serve as a major factor in sustaining the integrity and values of the organization by examining,
evaluating different activities of the company. AML always looks forward to expand their
business while maintaining good relation with its customers, employees, and collaborators as
well as with the government.
Recommendation:
Abdul Monem Limited contains a very potential internal Audit department which is performing
at their best level to bring integrity and firmness over the organization and maintaining sound
corporate governance. But every organization carries some drawbacks because nothing can be
perfect in human eyes. These are some factors that an organization cannot avoid. These cannot
be removed but can be reduced. There is some recommendation we made for Abdul Monem
Limited. They are:
In AML resources allocation should be done allocated for the projects so that these can
be done properly by avoiding any hazard and mistakes.
AML to introduce other well anticipated products of Coca Cola Company in local
market.
Going for some alliance with some of the major rivals or if possible acquiring some of
them.
