PRAYER FOR ONE’S FAMILY

May your presence, most loving Jesus,

ever bless our home and fill it with the
virtues so perfectly practiced in Your own
Holy Family at Nazareth. Protect us from
all dangers, bless our endeavors, and
keep always in our family the spirit of love,
peace, and happiness. Amen.
How could it be possible
that in one Being there
are three persons yet
remain one?
This has always been the question and challenge to us believers. So
we used objects from daily life to illustrate though inadequately the
mystery.
The Mystery of the
Holy Trinity
“In the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit.”

We are reminded that there are 3

persons in one God every time we
make the Sign of the Cross.
God is One but the One
God exists in three
persons (God the
Father, the Son and the
Holy Spirit)
These three Divine Persons
are distinct from one
another but they are one
in essence, nature and
substance. Together they
are the One and true
God.
Triune God or simply the Trinity.
Trinity or “trinitas” in Latin means –
the state of being threefold. It
came from the combination
“trinus” - denotes the number 3 +
“unitas” -which signifies oneness
= “trinitas”.
The Father – the first
person of the Trinity –
is the loving creator
of all in heaven and
on earth. The same
father of whom all
things are possible.
Mark 14:36
The second person is the
Son – who was manifested
to us in Jesus Christ. The
eternal word of the Father
who was made flesh and
sent to the world to save
and redeem. He is the
very Jesus whom we
rightly call Teacher and
Lord. John 13:13
The Holy Spirit is the fount of
the infinite love of the Father
and the Son. In the Old
Testament, he has spoken
through the prophets to
reveal God’s message while
in the New Testament he was
poured out into our hearts so
that we may recall all that
Jesus taught and revealed to
us.
The mystery of the Holy Trinity
is the central mystery of the
Christian faith and of Christian life.
God alone can make it known to
us by revealing himself as the
Father, Son , and Holy Spirit. CCC
261
ECONOMY OF SALVATION
The Three Divine Persons have different role in the Salvation of
Humanity.

DIVINE PERSONS ROLE

GOD THE FATHER CREATOR/ PROVIDER

GOD THE SON SAVIOR/ REDEMEER
GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT PARACLETE/ HELPER
We believe in One God. One God in the Three
Persons of the Father the source of all; the Son
who is Jesus our Lord and savior and the Holy
Spirit the love of god and giver of life.
Although distinct from one another the father
the son and the holy spirit is one God the
perfect communion of love.

Learning Objectives
Deepen learners’ understanding on the role
of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament and in
their Personal Christian life.
Commit learners to the promptings of the
Holy Spirit to live a life in accordance to
God’s plan.
Pray for God’s grace to live by the Spirit.
Activity No. 1 – Picture Analysis

Cite an instance in your

life as a learner when
you experienced any
of the above
feelings/emotions.
What did you do to
overcome it?
The Spirit who is the author of wisdom
helps us in the process of discernment.
Joseph the Dreamer

A prophet who has the ability to interpret

dreams is sold into slavery in Egypt, where
people learn of his gifts. When Joseph
receives a beautiful coat from his parents, his
ten brothers hate him even more, and are
driven to sell him to desert merchants, who
take him to Egypt.
Pharaoh’s Dream
(Genesis 41:33, 37-39)

Therefore, let Pharaoh seek out a discerning

and wise man and put him in charge of the
land of Egypt. This advice pleased Pharaoh
and all his servants. “Could we find another
like him,” Pharaoh asked his servants, a man
so endowed with the spirit of God?” So
Pharaoh said to Joseph: “Since God has
made all this known to you, there is no one
as discerning and wise discerning as you are.
Pharaoh’s Dream
(Genesis 41:33, 37-39)

1. Why was Joseph described

as a man so endowed with
the spirit of God?
2. What is the message of the
story of Joseph with regards
to your talents and abilities?
Church Teaching
By the grace of our Baptism, we are called to share in the life of the Blessed
Trinity (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit) here on earth and after
death in eternity. The mystery of the Most Holy Trinity is the central mystery
of the Christian faith and of Christian life. God alone can make it known to
us by revealing Himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Incarnation of
God’s Son reveals that God is the eternal Father and that the Son is
consubstantial with the Father, which means that, in the Father and with the
Father, the Son is one and the same God. The mission of the Holy Spirit, sent
by the Father in the name of the Son reveals that with the Holy Spirit is one
and the same God (CCC, 261-266).
Old Testament
The role of the Holy Spirit:
1.Giver of Life.
2.One who prepares people for
witnessing and certain mission.
How do we discern the Holy Spirit?

According to the teachings of

the Church, it is in our actual,
daily living that we discover who
the Holy Spirit is and how the Holy
Spirit works in our lives.
The Holy Spirit is active in our own
personal experiences in three levels:

1. Within ourselves
2. Through interpersonal experience
3. By way of community and parish
work and social life
Holy Spirit

1. The Holy Spirit has no shape and

form.
2. We have our limitations.
Biblical Symbols of the Holy Spirit

1. water,
2. fire,
3. cloud,
4. wind,
5. Breath; and
6. dove
We can discern more of the presence
of the Holy Spirit in our life through:

1. Sacred Scriptures
2. Sacred Tradition
3. Prayer
4. Christian Witness
Therefore…

The Holy Spirit then is inherently in us and among us. As the Holy Spirit filled
and empowered men and women in the Old Testament, we should realize
that the Holy Spirit continues to do the same for us. Without the Holy Spirit
empowering us, we can never accomplish God’s plan for us because
admittedly, human effort is not enough. “God’s work is a divine work and
thus the need for divine power to accomplish our noble tasks. Even men and
women of faith have a limited grasp of God’s ways, and they have limited
power. Thus, the ministry of the Holy Spirit was necessitated by the greatness
of God and by the ignorance and impotence of men and women. The Holy
Spirit was God’s way of assuring that His will was accomplished in the world,
through men and women” (Deffinbaugh, 2004).
Missionary Response
1. Let us constantly seek the Holy Spirit in prayer
especially in moments of discernment and
reflection.
2. Be humble for the Spirit is found in humility.
3. Just like Joseph let us use our talents at the
service of other people.
