RBIissuesnormsfordividenddistributionbyNBFCs
● TheReserveBankofI ndia(RBI)hascomeoutw ithd ividenddistributiong uidelinesfornon-bankingf inance
companies(NBFCs)toinfusegreatertransparencyanduniformityinthep ractice.
● TheregulatorhasmandatedthatthenetN PAr atiooftheN BFCc oncernedshouldb elessthan6 %ineachofthelast
threeyearsf ordeclaringdividends.
● Similarly,theRBIhasprescribedapplicableregulatorycapitalr equirementsind ifferenttypeso fNBFCs.
● Forexample,deposit-takingNBFCswillneedtohaveaminimumcapitala dequacyratioof15%.
● However,forh ousingfinancecompanies,thetier-Iandtier-IIcapitalshouldnotbelessthan13%asofMarch2020,
14%asofMarch2021,and15%asofMarch2022fordeclaringdividends.
● Theguidelinesalsoprescribeceilingsondividendp ayoutratiosforNBFCs.Themaximumdividendp ayoutratio
couldb e60%foranNBFCw hichisacoreinvestmentcompany.
● However,thereisnoceilings pecifiedf orN BFCsthatdon otacceptpublicfundsanddon oth avea nyc ustomer
interface.
● Theproposeddividendshouldincludeb othdividendsonequitysharesandcompulsorilyc onvertiblep reference
