2. How are the prices of new and old car/motobike?
To compare the price of new and old car, I will take an example of Honda City to compare. A new car –
Honda City version 2021 has the price of 529 million VND. When I do small research on Internet the find
the price of an old Honda City, I found out that the average price of an old Honda City has the price from
450-500 million VND, which really surprised me because I thought the price of a used car would have to
be a lot lower than a new car bought from the store. As I read on the book, the average used car costs
about $10,000 less than the average new car. However, it seems to be true only for the case in the US
market, but in the Vietnamese market, according to my observations, the price of a used car will only
differ from 50-70 million VND compared to a new car. Of course, the price of a used car depends on
many factors such as the version of the car. The version 2019 of Honda City has the price usually cost
more than 500 million VND, the 2018 version costs from 480-500 million VND, the 2017 version costs
more than 450 million VND, versions from 2016 and earlier costs around 380-400 million VND.

Other factors that can affect the price of an old car are the number of miles the car has been driven,
along with features and options. In addition, the condition of the vehicle and the demand for the model
also affect price. And negotiation skills of the customers is also a factor that can affect the price of an old
car. Customers need to consider carefully before buying a car because according to my observations, the
car price will decrease by about 20 million VND a year. If you have bought a car for a long time and want
to sell it to buy a new one, you need to keep your car in the best condition.
3. Share your owned experience of buying your car/motobike or the experience of your
parents/relatives.
I want to share my experience when I saved money to buy my motorbike from Honda – Air blade. Back
when I was a freshman at university, when I first entered the school I did not have a motorbike, so I
often had to take my mother's motorbike. However, that gradually became inconvenient when it made
my family sometimes not have enough vehicles for everyone to use and go to work. So I made a plan to
be able to buy a motorbike by myself in my 2nd year of university. My dream motorbike was Air blade,
and it has the price from 41 million VND to 56 million VND. At that time, I already had a saving account
10 million VND, which is the amount of money my parents gave to me when I entered the university. So
in order to increase my saving and buy a new motorbike I start doing a part-time job with the salary of 4
million VND. I was still living with my parents so I don't have to pay for accommodation, I try to spend
only 1 million per month for entertainment, or transportation to save 3 million each month. At that end
of the year, I was able to save 46 million VND and 46.5 million VND (including account saving and
interest). At that time I had the choice of buying a used car with a nicer version and more powerful
150cc engine or buying a new car with a normal model and a weaker 125cc engine. Most of the old
motorbikes at that time had the price of 37-38 million VND and it is not significant cheaper than the new
one. Finally, based on my personal situation I decided to buy a new motorbike with 125cc engine. Since I
only use a motorbike to travel within the inner city of Hanoi and do not go through rough terrain, I find
it unnecessary to buy a vehicle with a powerful engine. Moreover, buying a new car is not only buying a
vehicle but it is also an experience, I want to have the experience of getting license plates, vehicle
papers and going to the store to buy it by myself. It is the experience that I want to have.
