Celebrating the Life Of
Timothy “Tim” Jacobson
Tim Jacobson was born September 19, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Tim was the toe haired youngest son of Dorothy and Roger Jacobson
with an older brother Roger 13 years his senior. He grew up
cultivating his love of cars, water, philosophy, and a dry wit that would
remain as themes throughout his life. Tim went to North Park College
in Chicago and studied religion. There he fell in love as a young man
to a beautiful young woman born and raised in Africa. Judy
Thornbloom became his wife and lifelong companion, as Judy
Jacobson. Tim continued his studies and became a physical
therapist. They had their first daughter Tina who was tragically lost at
a young age. He and Judy supported each other through this
profound loss and their love deepened.
They moved to Florida to enjoy sun and fun and soon had the house
where friends and family alike came to visit. They raised their 2
daughters Julie and Janelle in this loving space. Tim was a dedicated
physical therapist and had a deep commitment to helping others. With
his hard work he sent his two girls successfully through college and
on through medical school for Julie. He was blessed with 2
grandchildren Rebecca and Xavier from Janelle and Richard. Tim had
an infectious laugh and enjoyed reading the comics aloud to his girls
and then to his grandchildren.
He enjoyed windsurfing, sailing, and sunset toasts on the beach. More
recently he and Judy could be found walking in the park where he
would do his self-prescribed physical therapy routine to remain fit. His
love of cars was life-long and he could be seen any morning wiping
down the car to make it perfect for the day. Tim suffered a stroke and
passed suddenly but peacefully on Aug 19th, 2021. He will be
remembered by his loving wife, his daughters and their families, as
well as the countless people’s lives that he touched and improved
through his life and his work.

Prelude
Call to Worship
Grace and peace in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We gather today
in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection, to give thanks to God
for the life of Timothy “Tim” Jacobson. Known to each of us in many
different ways, as a husband, as a dad, as a grandparent, and as a
friend. We come to seek the comfort of the Holy Spirit, and to proclaim
the good news of eternal life in Jesus Christ.
For as many of you were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves
with Christ. In his baptism, Tim was clothed with Christ; in the day of
Christ’s coming, he shall be clothed in glory.
Psalm 124:8
One: Our help is in the name of the Lord,
All: Maker of Heaven and earth.
John 11:25-26
One: I am the resurrection and the life, says the Lord. Those who
believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives
and believes in me will never die.
Psalm 46:1-2
One: God is our refuge and strength.
All: Therefore we will not fear.

Gathering Prayer Unison
Eternal God, We bless you for the great company of all those who
have kept the faith, finished their race, and who now rest from their
labor. We praise you for those dear to us whom we name in our
hearts before you. Especially we thank you for Tim whom you have
now received into your presence. Help us to believe where we have
not seen, trusting you to lead us through our years. Bring us at last
with all your saints into the joy of your home, through Jesus Christ
our Lord. Amen
Hymn In the Garden
I come to the garden alone, While the dew is still on the roses;
And the voice I hear, falling on my ear, The Son of God discloses.
Refrain
And He walks with me, and He talks with me, And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there None other has ever known.
He speaks, and the sound of His voice Is so sweet the birds hush their signing;
And the melody that He gave to me Within my heart is ringing.
refrain
I’d stay in the garden with Him Tho’ the night around me be falling;
But He bids me go, thro’ the voice of woe; His voice to me is calling.

Special Music
Day by Day and With Each Passing Moment
Solo – Mark Thornbloom
Reading from the Old Testament
Ecclesiastes 3:1-15
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
2 a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up
what is planted; 3 a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and
a time to build up;4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and
a time to dance; 5 a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones
together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6 a time
to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to throw away; 7 a time
to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8 a
time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.
9 What gain have the workers from their toil? 10 I have seen the business
that God has given to everyone to be busy with. 11 He has made everything
suitable for its time; moreover he has put a sense of past and future into
their minds, yet they cannot find out what God has done from the beginning
to the end. 12 I know that there is nothing better for them than to be happy
and enjoy themselves as long as they live; 13 moreover, it is God’s gift that
all should eat and drink and take pleasure in all their toil. 14 I know that
whatever God does endures forever; nothing can be added to it, nor anything
taken from it; God has done this, so that all should stand in awe before him.
15 That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already is; and God
seeks out what has gone by.

Reading from the New Testament
2 Corinthians 4:16-5:1
So we do not lose heart. Even though our outer nature is wasting away, our
inner nature is being renewed day by day. 17 For this slight momentary
affliction is preparing us for an eternal weight of glory beyond all measure,
18 because we look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen; for
what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal. 5:1 For
we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building
from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
