Despite of the good changes brought by the advancement of technology; different studies
also showed that it has negative impacts especially to the young ones. A recent study by (Rawal,
2020) revealed that 65% of the children became addicted to electronic devices, while 50% of
them couldn’t stay away from their gadgets for even half an hour. This idea means that they are
lacking control over the usage of gadgets. They don’t mind the time as they are focused on their
gadgets. The overuse of gadgets is really a problem, especially for the youth. Most of the
applications in our gadgets require the usage of the internet which is why gadgets can be
interrelated with internet usage addiction. The use of the internet is the main reason why students
use their gadgets. Almost all of the application needed internet for them to use it. In connection,
a study by Sharp et.al., (2007), revealed the way teens use mobile phones. First 75% of all
teenagers and 58% of 12 years old now have a mobile phone. Almost 90% of phone owing teens
send & receive texts, most of them daily. 80% of phones owing teens use them to take pictures
60% listen to music, 46% play games, 32% swap videos, and 23% access social networking sites
the mobile phone in short is now the favored communication hub for the majority of teens. This
study shows that there are a lot of teenagers who have their own mobile phones and they mainly
use them to send and receive text or messages. Communication is very important now a days
especially during this pandemic where people are far from each other. Gadgets will be the main
stream for us to be able to communicate to each other that’s why teenagers spend most of their
time on gadgets to be connect to their friends and classmates.

According to (Jennifer, 2012), the increase in time spent by children using electronic
gadgets for recreating has been shown to be a significant factor in decreased time spent on
homework and school assignments. Most of the children fall asleep in school, not keeping up
with assignments, worsening grades, dropping out from schools, obsessing, and being
preoccupied not only does electronic gadgets take time away from homework, but it also takes
away from learning. It sets children up for a sedentary. Moreover, Sharif and Surgent (2006)
found that adolescents who spent time watching television, playing video games, operating
mobile phones, and hooked on the internet after school, instead of doing their homework more
likely to have lower grades. In conclusion, this study proves to us that it is really true that long
exposure to gadgets affects the academic performance of the students. They tend to be out of
focus and ignore their responsibilities. It is very difficult for them to control the use because they
are hooked with the contents of the gadgets. Since gadgets are flexible devices, they can do
whatever they want to do from playing games, communication, and for entertainment.
Regardless of its entertainment and good benefits, people, especially the youth tend to abuse the
use of it which leads to negative effects such as mental health problems, physical health
problems, and decrease in performance in school or at work.

The study of [CITATION Lin04 \l 1033 ] states that cellphones have become an almost
important element of daily life since their sudden rise in popularity in the late 1990s. According
to a national survey, mobile phones are the most important mode of communication among
adolescents. It has had a significant impact on society's accessibility, security, safety, and
coordination of economic and social activities, and has therefore been ingrained in global
culture. Families and schools are the typical factors of socialization. The development of the
educational system as a result of the increased demand for highly qualified workers has resulted
in the school system taking on greater socializing duties. Remarkably, research on the impact of
mobile phones on today's schools has received little attention. With respect to the mobile phone
device, there is a contradictory priority among young people, parents, and teachers, with teachers
more concerned about concerns such as classroom discipline and parents concerned about ways
to reach their children at any time. This means that adolescents use gadgets as a primary mode of
communication. Gadgets do more than just make lives easier; it also saves peoples’ money and
time. Owning a gadget gives people access to a variety of functions.
