EE230-Analog Lab (Summer Course-2021) Quiz-4 (10 Marks) : June 22, 2021
Instructions:
• Keep your webcam ON during the quiz time. If evaluating TA asks you to share the screen
to verify the netlist and simulation results, share it with the TA.
• You can refer: NGSPICE tutorial, model files uploaded on the channel and your written
netlists for the exercises. No other material is allowed.
• TA will not tell you anything about the correctness of your circuit diagrams and
netlists.
• Total time allocated to write the netlist and simulate in NGSPICE => 90 min.
• Show your netlists and simulation results of each question to the evaluating TA.
• No Additional time will be given.
Figure 1: RC circuit
1
(a) Write correct netlist and save the netlist as “rc.cir”. (0.5 mark)
(b) Perform Noise analysis and report the total integrated noise (onoise total) value. (0.5mark)
(c) (True or False) kT
C is nearly same in value to onoise total you obtained. (k is Boltzmann
constant 1.38 × 10−23 , T is temperature in kelvin, C is your capacitance). (0.5 mark)
2. Given in Figure [ 2] is a slightly modified Filter circuit from that given in exercise-4.
(a) Write correct netlist and save the netlist as “Filter.cir”. (0.5 mark)
(b) Perform pole-zero analysis between input and output voltage. Report the poles and zeros
obtained. (0.5 mark)
(c) (True or False) In general the number of energy storing elements in circuit is the order
of the circuit. Does this statement hold here? Justify your answer. (1 mark)
(d) Write the transfer function from pole-zero obtained in point(b). (0.5 mark)
3. Given in Figure [ 3] is an oscillator circuit. Use op-amp UA741 with dual power supplies of
±10 V, the voltage function for +10V should be pwl(0 0 1n 10). This is necessary to start
oscillation.
(a) It is given that in oscillation mode, the Filter circuit attenuates the signal by 31 . From
this information find out what should be relationship between Rin and Rf. (1.5 marks)
(b) Select appropriate resistance values based on above relation and perform transient anal-
ysis for 1ms with the steps of 0.1ms and observe the output.

4. Figure [ 4] is a gain circuit having ’T’ network in the feedback. The advantage of having such
a circuit is that you get reasonable gain without having large resistors connected in circuit
which would increase your noise floor.
(a) Get the gain expression for the circuit. (1.5 marks)
(b) Choose appropriate resistor values and write the netlist so that you get a gain of approx-
imately 20. Simulate the circuit using transient analysis for 5ms with a sine wave input
3
of 1kHz and 5mV amplitude. (1 mark + 0.5 mark)
5. Make a pdf report for all the questions with netlists and plots with appropriate answers for
the sub-question that need to be answered. Name the pdf as [Quiz-4 name roll no.pdf ].
