I. Introduction
Miss Angelita Ballesteros graduated with the highest honors in her college days at the
University of Sto. Tomas (UST) and is now owning a business that is a construction supply. It's a
great business to have, especially when a national highway and a city road are nearby. Her
secretary approached her one day and said they needed to persuade a top-rated contractor to buy
from them, which turned out to be Hamilcar, her ex-boyfriend who dumped her on their wedding
day. Angelita wants to avoid him, but she realizes that doing so may put her business in danger.
So she's considering to shift into another type of business.
Miss Ballesteros was raised as God-fearing and decent person by her parents. Angela
receives an adequate formal education. In high school, she graduated valedictorian from La
Salette High School. And in college, she got awarded the highest honors in Business
Administration from the University of Sto. Tomas. In the same university, she met Hamilcar, a
townmate, and enrolled in engineering. He courted her then she agreed to marry him one year
after graduation. On the day of their wedding, he did not appear. She felt humiliated. After few
years, she decided to start her own business. Angelita has a deep financial capitalization source
and, she also has family support. She didn't know that one of her customers was her ex-
boyfriend. When she found out, she was shocked and felt rising anger within her. She wanted to
shift her business from construction supply to drug wholesaling or hospital supplies.
III. Alternatives
The alternatives are: to shift her business into drug wholesaling or hospital supply. She
will be able to avoid her ex-boyfriend, she will have a stabilized emotional state, and she will be
able to pursue new business opportunities. The downsides include lost opportunities and the risk
of losing a source of income. Another alternative is don't entertain the offered contract by her
assistant. She will be able to avoid the presence of her ex-boyfriend, and she can continue having
her business, but there will be a loss of profitable customers and a loss of a potential network in
the construction industry.
IV. Solution
Angelita must ask for an appointment with Hamilcar to discuss business opportunities.
Angelita should keep her emotions out of this meeting and focus on the objective of the business
only to take advantage of this rare opportunity. Angelita should prepare an appealing offer for the
contractor before the meeting, featuring diverse options for a possible partnership.
V. Recommendation
My recommendation is you should not be affected by what or who you are dealing with
because love life and business life are different aspects. How can you get your capital back if you
want to change your business again and again just because one of your customers is your ex-
boyfriend and you have a bad time with him? Before making any decisions, try to consult a
proficient businessman so that your money will not be wasted. You should be professional in
handling situations like that because it is part of your business reputation. Stop letting your past
ruin your present and future.
