X. Rationale of the Project

The 2010 POPCEN results indicate that the actual population size of the town of Santa
Rosa has reached 284,670 inhabitants. The recent total population count is 99,037, which
means there are more people than it was in 2000. The increase in the population size of the city is
expressed in the 4.37 percent average growth rate for the period 2000-2010.

According to the City Government of Sta. Rosa Laguna, the town of Santa Rosa is
located at a latitude of 121 6 and a longitude of 14.19. It is bordered by Biñan to the northwest,
Cabuyao to the south and southwest, and Cavite Province to the west. There are numerous
commercial, manufacturing, and business establishments in the western part of the city, while the
northern part consists mostly of residential areas and subdivisions, schools, industrial zones, and
various business establishments. If there are a lot of manufacturing factories and business
establishments, it means that the quality of air is poor and it is mostly dirty that affects nearby
subdivisions and the city has not yet formulated an Air Quality Management Framework.
Therefore, the project is focused on cleaning up the subdivision and also beautification of local
parks inside the village.

XI. Objectives (General and Specific)

Generally, this project aims to let the small community in Mariquita gain knowledge on
waste collection and waste management.

Specifically, it seeks to:

1. Raise environmental awareness and self-responsibility for the people in Mariquita.

2. Educate them on the proper disposal and waste segregation in the subdivision.
3. Embellish the local parks inside the village so that it will lead to better satisfaction and
better property values.
4. Have proper disposal of waste and clean the village to have a good quality of air.

XII. Description of the Project

The proposed project entitled “Local Park Beautification and Village Cleanup” aims to
provide general and specific knowledge about waste collection and waste management for the
residents of Mariquita, Sta. Rosa Laguna. The project will give the residents different lectures
and demonstrations provided by the researcher. Furthermore, because of abandonment, the
village failed to maintain its beauty which resorted to the spread of garbage everywhere. Thus,
the project intends to enhance the Local Park and village for the betterment of the homeowners’
way of living. The project that will be conducted has a total of four activities and it will start in
the 2nd week of June, the activities will be done day by day until the volunteers accomplish every
task that is scheduled. The first activity is about an Awareness Campaign where there will be
lectures and demonstrations. Furthermore, the gathered materials will be needed for the third,
fourth, and fifth activities. The second activity is about the making of garbage bins since there
will be a cleaning of the village and a beautification of a local park thus, we need garbage bins to
put the waste we gathered. Additionally, it will also serve as an early practice of what the
volunteers learned during the lectures and demonstration. The third activity is the beautification
or recreation of the local park inside the village of Mariquita. Lastly, the fourth activity is the
cleaning of the village; the garbage bins created will be used for the collected waste on the area.
These activities will be done by the volunteers who wanted to help. However, since unforeseen
situations can arise during the project, a staff with the contact numbers for local emergency
services will be on standby throughout the duration of the project.

Volunteers, members of the youth council, people doing community service, residents of
Mariquita can all be involved in the project. These could also be made up of city academics who
are responsible for at least three community programs, out-of-school teens, and local residents.

XV. Monitoring and Evaluation Mechanics

In order to ensure the progress of the project entitled “Local Park Beautification and
Village Clean Up”, the researchers must track or observe and evaluate the whole process during
the activities, it must be documented, and they must ensure that the volunteers will not be
exposed to unsafe conditions during the cleaning session (any area that is away from the village).
Furthermore, the team should manage their budget properly in case unforeseen circumstances
occur, and make sure that the funds are in a safe place since the project will not work if the team
has no funds. After the project is finished, all volunteers of the village will receive a certificate
recognizing and acknowledging their active role in the project's implementation. In addition,
those who made substantial contributions to the project should be honored with a certificate of
appreciation, which should include the organizations and collaborators who participated in the
project. Lastly,, the team should still get updates about the progress of the village from time to
time, just to ensure if the residents applied what they have learned about the project.

XVI. Plans for Ensuring the Sustainability of the Project

These are the preparations for how the team can ensure the project's long-term viability
when the team puts it into effect. The following are examples:
1. Maintaining Financial Stability is one of the plans to ensure the sustainability of the
project. Managing and ensuring that the funds needed are enough to complete the
activities of the project.
2. Volunteers will be able to practice and share their awareness about the value of proper
waste management in the community with sufficient information from the proponents.
9
Local Park Beautification and Village Clean Up

This will cause the volunteers to maintain and apply what they learned. This will ensure
the sustainability of the project.
3. The residents, including parents, youths, and children, will practice the simple act of
waste management during the activity inside the village.
