the public speaking career. She said that pain difficulty and adversity are things
that everybody everywhere can deal with.

- She also stated that everyone will experience times when it feels like life has
bring us down, this can happen sooner or later. But she claimed that, it does not
mean that we should easily give up when we face several failures in our life. In
fact, we should proof to everyone that we can be a better person in the future by
keep working hard to do something that we like.

1
ANALYSIS

1. THE INTRODUCTION

- Based on the video we have selected "Still Standing" by Ramona J. Smith, the
attention getter that she used is she tells the audience that sometimes this life is
like fight. This is because in life we also must fight to overcome challenges,
obstacles and failures. He also asked questions to councillors and audiences when
life once tried to bring them down.

- “Round one, college. I dropped out of college not one, not two, not three, but four
times. I told myself college is not for me and I would never go back. Round two,
marriage. I married my soul mate, the love of my life, my best friend. He was fine
too. We were married for eight long, beautiful, amazing months. You heard right,
months, not years. It was like immediately after we said, “I do”, the heavyweight
champion came in and delivered an electrifying knockout blow to our vows. Boom!
Divorced. Round three, speaking. In 2015, I competed for the first time in the
International Speech Contest”. The way speaker reveals the topic is speaker told
the audience about the hardships of her life that went through various challenges
and obstacles before she was able to overcome them until now and make her still
able to stand.

- The credibility she showed was that she connected the topic with the experiences
she had gone through. This causes the audience to be interested in listening
because it is based on true reality and facts.

- The way the speaker previews the content of her speech is by tell the audience
after she goes three round and taking hit after hit, she was ready to throw in the
towel. She was down for the count. She also asks back to the audience when they
have been tricked by life.

2
2. THE BODY

- Speech organization is an important part of the body of speech and is an important

role because it can facilitate the speaker to deliver her speech in an orderly and
smooth manner without any problems. This is also to prevent the speaker from
feeling nervous while giving a speech. In her speech, Ramona first told the story
and her experience to the audience and after that she related it to the reality of life.

- Main point is the main thing that all speakers need to pay attention to. They need
to choose it carefully, deliver it well and easily understood by the audience. The
main point that Ramona wants to convey is that it is all about life because
Ramona's purpose is to share with the audience how difficult it is to get through life
and rise again when experiencing failure.

- Based on her speech, it shows that this speech is a chronological order because
Ramona initially shared about life and the way she lived her life so that she could
help herself to continue standing in the future.

3. CONCLUSION

- As a signal of the end of her speech, Ramona repeated about the three rounds of
failure she had faced before. She also challenged the audience to stay on the court
even as a fighter or coach. To reinforces the central idea is very important to a
speaker’s speech. In her speech, Ramona said, "and even after you take a few
hits, use what you learned from those previous fights, and at the end of each round,
you will remain still standing".

3
4. DELIVERY METHOD

- The delivery method that the speaker use in this speech was speaking
extemporaneously which is delivery with carefully prepared and practiced in
advanced. This method is a very good and effective as this method can gain more
attention of the audience because the idea come extemporaneously and
spontaneously from the speaker herself. The speech mainly about the speaker’s
experience on how she found the strength in the fact of adversity throughout her
life.

- Ramona J. Smith has a very clear and average loud voice. The voice volume just
nice when she keeps talked with the loud voice but still in heard soft and the rate
speed is not too fast but not really slow. She also knows how to stop or have
momentary break so that the audience can catch up with her speech. In this case,
if the speaker talks too fast or quickly, audience will be lost understanding and
when they talk too slow it might be bored.

- The speaker’s good personal appearance gets the first impression from the
audience. In this video, Ramona looks so confident and competent in her blazer,
her outfit make her very confident to give her speech. She also often makes hand
gesture and other gestures to avoid the speech looks stiff and boring. Besides
that, she also always makes an eye contact to the audience in the hall to establish
a communicative bond with the audiences.

4
DISCUSSION

- What makes the speech by Ramona J. Smith titled “Still Standing” a good speech
is because she knows how to interact and get attention of the audience by told the
audience about her real experience on how she found strength in the facts of
adversity throughout her life. Other than that, she also often asking the questions
to the audience such as “Can you think of the time that life tried to knock you
down?” “Who was your toughest opponent?”. This will make the speech feel more
attractive and the audience also will give more attention to the speech because
they will be wondering to know the answer for those question. She also keeps
maintaining her good voice from the speech start until to the ending and keep
making eye contact with her audience.

- The weakness about this topic that we realize is the speaker is not organized the
main idea of her speech very well. This might make the audience hard to recognize
the main part of her speech. She also not using the transition statement to let the
audience know about which points she is talking about. This will make the audience
feel confused about her speech.

- In our personal opinion, based on the overall view of this speech, we think that this
speech is actually a very good speech because the speaker encouraged us not to
give up easily and keep getting up even when we have failed many times in our
life. The speech is so relatable to us and we can get inspiration by this speech to
not to give up easily to be a successful person in our life.

5
CONCLUSION

- In conclusion, the speech video that we choose for this speech analysis that titled,
“Still Standing” that presented by Ramona J. Smith is a very good and high-quality
speech. This is because, she delivers her speech about this topic very well. She
also knows how to entertain her audience that makes the audience laugh to hear
her joke. By doing this, the audience will pay a full attention to her speech and they
will not get bored. The topic of her speech is also relatable to all of us and we can
motivations while watching and hearing her speech.

- Based on The Art of The Public Speaking, the introduction must require the
attention tactic, how the speaker reveal the subject of the speech, credibility and
how to preview the content of the speech. Other than that, the body of the speech
is also important because it will let the audience know about our main points and
which points that we are talking. Lastly, the conclusion. Preparing for a good
conclusion is also important in order to give a good and memorable ending speech
to the audiences.

- All in all, by doing this speech analysis, we conclude that a lot of improvements
can be used to improve our speech in the future. It is not only for Public Speaking
subject but for the whole subject which is involving presentation and so on. By
watching a lot of speech video like this, we can improve ourselves and take a good
example from it so that we can be more confident to speak in public in the future.
