Detailed Lesson Plan in English V

I. Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, the pupils will be able to:

a. Define and give example of cause and effect.


b. Construct their own sentences that will show cause and effect.
c. Give an effect for a given cause, or give a cause for a given effect.

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
Let us all stand up for prayer.
Who will lead the prayer? (one student will lead the prayer)

2. Greetings
Good afternoon grade 5! Good afternoon Ma’am Divina!
Are you all ready? Yes, we are all ready!
Before you take your seats, kindly pick up the (The pupils will pick up the litters and throw it
pieces of paper under your chair. properly.)

3. Checking of Attendance
Before we proceed, let us check your attendance
first. Do we have absentees for this afternoon? I’m glad to say that no one is absent in our group.
Group 1? No one is absent in group 2.
Very good! How about the second group? Great! I’m happy to say that no one is absent in group 3.
How about in group 3? Group 4 is complete
Nice! And how about the Last group?

It’s good to hear that you are all present this


afternoon.
4. Energizer
Class, to make us alive and alert for our today’s
discussion, Everybody stand up and let’s sing a (The pupils will sing the song
song. I Love English)
Ready sing.

Are you all now alive and alert? Yes, we are!

5. Review
Before we proceed to our new topic, let us have a
short review about our topic last time.
Who among you still remember our topic last Last time, we discussed about compound words
time?

That’s right! Now, who can define compound These words are formed by putting two words
word? together to form a new word with a new meaning.

Good job! Now, let me see if you really


understand the lesson.
I have here my treasure box, you will form
compound words out of the things that you will
see inside the box.

Good job grade 5! Now I know that you really


understand the Compound Word.

B. During Activities
1. Motivation
Now class, I am going to divide you into 3 groups.
Each group will be given a task.

You only have 5 minutes to do it. Afterwards you


will make a sentence about your observation. Group 1 will put the mentos into the coke and they
will observe what will happen.

Group 2 will put the boiled egg into the water and
water with salt. They will find out whether the egg
will sink or float.
Group 3 will pin the balloon and see what will
happen
But before we start the activity, let us first recall
the standards in doing a group work.
What are those? Work quietly
Work neatly
Work cooperatively

Good! I think you are ready. You may now start. (The pupils will do their task)
(After 5 minutes, they will present and share their
observation in front of the class.)

Later you will find out what’s the connection of
this task to our new lesson.

2. Presentation
Before we proceed to our new topic, I have here a
short video. I want you to focus on the video and
watch quietly.

But before that let us first unlock those difficult


words that you will encounter while watching.

3. Discussion
After watching the video, I have some questions
for you to answer

 Why do you think the ant save the dove?  The ant saved the dove because the dove
saved her too.
 How did the dove feel when the ant saved  The dove was very thankful to the ant.

 What is the moral of the story?  Every good deed we do for others will
always come back to us.
 Are you willing to help a friend? Why?  Yes! Because, a true friend will always
help their friend in need.

Always remember that What you reap is what you
sow, meaning if you do good things to others or if
you help others, at the time that you will need
them they will also help you.

Now take a look at this sentences

1. The ant went down to the river to drink because


she was thirsty.

2. The dove picked and dropped a big leaf so that


the ant could ride on it.

3.The ant bit the the hunter’s foot so the dove was
saved.

What did you observe with the sentences? The sentences show what happened and the result
of what happed.

Nice idea! Now based from this sentences and


your observation earlier with your mini
experiment what do you think the activities wants
to show you? It shows action and its result.

Great! What kind of relationship do you think


shows action and result? A Cause and Effect Relationship

Very Good! Your mini experiment earlier and


these sentences shows cause and effect.

Cause- is the reason for an action or


event.
Effect- is the result of what happened.

Let us now see if you can identify which is the


cause and which is the effect with this other
sentences.

1. She bent so low to drink that she fell into the


river.
2. The ant cried for help because she was
drowning.
3. The dove was thankful since she was saved by
the ant.
We also have some words that we can use in
connecting the cause and effect

C. Generalization
How can you differentiate Cause and Effect? Cause is something else happen while the Effect is
what happens as a result of the cause.

D. Application
Now, I am going to divide you again into 3
groups, each group will have a task to accomplish.
You have 5 minutes to do it and afterwards you
will present it on the class. Group 1: Using the graphic organizer Write a
multiple cause on a given effect, write a multiple
effect on a given cause.

Group 2: Will give the meaning of the cause and


effect through a Song/rap and dance number.

Group 3: Will do picture analysis, They will


complete the picture by drawing to show cause and
effect.
