SYMBOL DESCRIPTION SYMBOL DESCRIPTION

FLOW LINES and CONNECTIONS BASIC and MISCELLANEOUS SYMBOLS (Cont’d)
WORKING CIRCUITS – Continuous, RESTRICTION – Line with Fixed
Solid Line – Working (Main) Line. Return Restriction – Affected by Viscosity
Line (line conducting fluid from working (property of resistance to flowing fluid)
devices to the reservoir) and Feed Line
(main line conductor)
VARIABLE ADJUSTMENT
RESTRICTION – Regulated or Variable
PILOT PRESSURE – Dashed Line – Pilot Restriction
Line (line which conducts control fluid)

FILTER (strainer or screen) – For fluid

DRAIN CIRCUITS – Dotted Line – Drain conditioning
Line (drain or bleed line – line conducting
fluid from a component housing to the
reservoir) CYLINDER: Equipment to convert hydraulic energy into
linear energy and in which the fluid pressure operates
alternately in both directions (forward and backward
COMPONENTS – Long Chain Line –

FIXED CAPACITY DISPLACEMENT
BIDIRECTIONAL HYDRAULIC MOTOR –
OIL LINES CROSSING (NOT Connected) With two directions of flow (bidirectional)

COUPLER – Quick–Acting Coupling

(uncoupled. closed by non–return valve)

NON–RETURN VALVE (Check Valve) –

Used as replenishing valve. Load check
valve or anticavitation valve – Opens if the
inlet pressure is higher than the Outlet
pressure. Often contains internal spring
which has NO significant pressure value.

SPRING LOADED VALVE (Bypass Valve)

– Opens if the inlet pressure is greater than
the Outlet pressure plus the spring
pressure.
