B. Compute for the following case provided.

CASE NO. 1: (16 points)
Alice is 35-years old pregnant office secretary standing 5’3” tall and weighing 70 kg. She
weighed 57 kg prior to pregnancy. She is on her 24 th week of pregnancy. Her husband is
also Store supervisor.

Direction:
1. Calculate her DBW (Tannhauser method).
2. BMI for Pre-pregnancy and Total Weight gain in pounds (lbs.)
3. Compute for her TER (consider the additional calories for pregnancy).
4. Write the diet prescription.

DBW (Desirable Body Weight)

Subject: 35- years old, Female, 5’3”
5’3” = 160.02
160.02-100 = 60.02
10% of 60.02 = 6.002
60.02-6.002= 54.01 kg.
DBW= 54 kg.

Body Mass Index (BMI) for Pre-Pregnancy and Total Weight Gain
70/1.65^2= 25.71 Overweight
154-125.4= 28.6 lbs.

References
Pre-pregnancy BMI+ (kg/m²)
Total Weight gain Range (lbs)
BMI (WHO)
Underweight <18.5 28-40
Normal weight 18.5-24.9 25-35
Overweight 25.0-29.9 15-25
Obese (includes all
≥30.0 11-20
classes)

TER (Total Energy Allowance)

TER= DBW X PA
54 X 35 = 1890
OR 1900 kcal

TER DISTRIBUTION (Use CHO: 65%, PRO: 15%, Fat: 20%)

CHO = 1900 x 65= 1235/ 4 = 309 g

PRO =1900 X 15 =285/4= 71 g

Fat =1900 X 20=380/9= 42 g

DIET PRESCRIPTION (Diet Rx)

Kcal. 1900 kcal; CHO 309g; PRO 71g; Fat 42g

CASE NO. 2: (12 points)

Kevin is 10 years old, weighing 26 kg, attending primary school at Harvard Elementary
School.
Direction:
1. Calculate his DBW
2. Compute his TER
3. Write the diet prescription

DBW (Desirable Body Weight)

138.5-100=38.5
10%of 38.5=3.85
38.5-3.85= 34.65
Dbw= 35 kg.

TER (Total Energy Allowance)

35 x 40= 1400 kcal

TER DISTRIBUTION (Use CHO: 65%, PRO: 15%, Fat: 20%)

CHO = 1400 x .65 = 910/4 = 228 g

PRO =1400 x .15=210/4=52g

Fat =1400 x .20=280/9=31 g

DIET PRESCRIPTION (Diet Rx)

Kcal. 1400 ; CHO 228g; PRO 52g; Fat 31g

CASE NO. 3: (14 points)

Mr. Ruso is a Sales Manager at the age of 42 weighing 98 kg and stands 163 cm.
During off days, he loves to watch football at home eating ample amounts of empty
calorie foods and drinking beer while sitting on his couch.

Direction:
1. Calculate his DBW (Tannhauser method).
2. BMI
3. Compute for his TER (consider the reduction of calories)
4. Write the diet prescription.

DBW (Desirable Body Weight)

163-100=63
10%of 63= 6.3
63-6.3= 56.7
DBW= 57 kg.
Body Mass Index (BMI)
98/1.68^2= 34.72 BMI

TER (Total Energy Allowance)

57 X 35= 1995 OR 2000 kcal

TER DISTRIBUTION (Use CHO: 60%, PRO: 20%, Fat: 20%)

CHO = 2000 x .60= 1200/4= 300 g.

PRO =2000 x .20=400/4= 100 g.

Fat =200 x .20=400/9 44 g

DIET PRESCRIPTION (Diet Rx)

Kcal. 2000; CHO 300g; PRO 100g; Fat 44g

II. Enumerations:
A. What are the effects of good nutrition to Pregnant Mothers? (give 4 effects/4
points)

During pregnancy, eating a balanced diet is connected to optimal brain

development and a healthy birth weight, as well as lowering the chance of many
birth abnormalities. Anemia, as well as other unpleasant pregnancy symptoms
like exhaustion and morning sickness, can be reduced by eating a well-balanced
diet.
B. What are the signs of good nutrition to middle childhood / school children? (give
4 signs/4 points)
Active– Having a strong desire to play and being active for at least a quarter of
an hour several times a day indicates healthy health.
Healthy appetite– Children with a healthy appetite are willing to eat a variety of
foods, but they are easily distracted by the bright and colorful things and
energetic faces that surround them.
A secure learner — If your child learns rapidly, it means he or she is receiving
adequate nutrients for brain development.
Alert and Lively -_If your child is alert and vibrant, it means that his or her
nutrition is on point and that nutrients are being absorbed effectively.
