2. When two trains cross each other in opposite direction they appear to go faster relative to
each other. Why? (1)
3. A stone dropped from the window of a stationary bus takes 5 seconds to reach the ground.
How much time will the stone take to reach the ground when the bus is moving with

10. A cyclist travels from centre O of a circular park of radius 7m and reaches point P. After

taken is 10 minutes, calculate his average speed and average velocity. (2)

19. A policeman moving on a highway with speed of 36km/hr fires a bullet at a thief’s car
speeding away in the same direction with a speed of 198 km/hr. If muzzle speed of
bullet is 150m/s, with what speed does the bullet hit the thief’s car? (3)
21. Define centripetal acceleration. Derive an expression for the centripetal acceleration of a
particle and discuss its direction. (3)
22. A balloon with mass m is rising up with an acceleration a. Find the mass to be detached
from the balloon in order to double its acceleration. (3)
23. State the law of conservation of momentum. Give two examples from daily life which
illustrate the law. (3)
24. Two blocks of masses 50 kg and 30 kg connected to a mass less string pass over a light
frictionless pulley and rest on two smooth planes inclined at an angle of 37° and 53°
respectively. Draw a free body diagram and then calculate acceleration of two blocks and
tension in the string. (3)

25. What do you mean by impulse of a force? Show that impulse is equal to change in
momentum produced by force. A batsman hits back a ball straight in the direction of bowler
without changing its speed of 12m/s. If mass of the ball is 150g, determine the impulse
imparted to the ball. (1+2+2)

a) A body of mass 1 kg initially at rest explodes and breaks into 3 fragments of masses in
the ratio 1:1:3. The two pieces of equal masses fly off perpendicular to each other
with a speed of 30m/s and 60m/s respectively. What is the velocity of third fragment?
b) Atennis ball of mass 150gm hits the wall with a speed of 54km/hr making an angle of
45° with the wall and gets reflected back with same speed. If the time of interaction
of ball with the wall is 0.5s, find the impulse imparted. (2½+2½)
27. a) A ball is thrown upwards with an initial velocity of 50m/s. Plot velocity time graph and
from graph calculate :-
(i) After how much time will it return to the ground?
(ii) Maximum height attained by the ball
b) A food packet is dropped from a balloon ascending at the rate of 9.8m/s at a height of
39.2m above the ground. After how much time and with what velocity does it
reach the ground? (Take the value of ‘g’ as 9.8m/s2) (2½+2½)

a) A stone thrown upward from the top of a tower 85m high reaches the ground in 5s.
Find:-
(i) The greatest height that the stone can reach above the ground
(ii) Velocity with which it reaches the ground
(iii) Time taken to reach the maximum height.
b) If xA (0)= -5m; vA=4m/s; xB(0)= 2m; vB= 2m/s. Plot the position-time graph for 0-5
seconds and from the graph, find when and where the two will meet. (2+3)
