Answer ALL questions.
1 Situation
You work in the order processing department of a company that sells beds. You have
recently received an order for 16 beds for a luxury hotel. You can send out some of
the order but, unfortunately, the rest will be delayed because of a problem with your
supplier overseas.
Task
Write a letter to your customer’s Purchasing Manager, Mrs Johns, to confirm that you
have received the order. Apologise for the situation. Say that there will be a delay in
delivering some of the beds and why. Say how many beds will be late. Give details
about when the beds will be delivered and offer a discount on the order.
Your company’s address: Stellar Beds, Unit 36, Melin Drive, [your town]
Your customer’s address: SevenStar Hotel Group, Green Road, [your town]

2 Situation
You have just started a new job and you spend a lot of time at work. You want to
exercise more but you do not know when to do it. On social media you see people
talking about the same issue and you decide to read the posts carefully to find
good ideas.
Task
Read the online discussion entitled ‘Exercising on work days’ and decide whether
the following statements are TRUE or FALSE. Then write only the words or phrases
from the passage that support your answer. Do not write more than six support
words for each answer. You will lose marks if you write more.
Answers are usually in two parts. You may need to look in different parts of the
passage to find the support words you need.
Each answer is worth three marks.

Omar
My colleagues and I go to the local gym at lunchtime. We’re very lucky because
we work at a university and the gym is just 5 minutes’ walk away. We talked
about going every day but we decided that wasn’t a good idea because some
Sanna days we want to do other things. We go every Tuesday and Thursday but only
for half an hour. My best advice is to do something small and do it every week!
I think that you will be able to find enough time if you really want to do it.
It’s also more motivating if you exercise with someone else. You could play
tennis with a friend or football with a team at the weekend. If you like running
Adam I suggest you join a club; this is much better for motivation and you will enjoy
being with other people. In a big club there is always someone who runs at the
same speed as you and it’s a great way to make friends too!
Another suggestion is to do something before you go home. I play wheelchair
basketball every Friday and I go directly after work. This is a good idea because
I go even if I’ve had a bad day. If I went home first I might feel tempted to stay
at home instead.
I used to be very stressed after my journey to work but then I decided to walk
instead of going by bus. Of course, it takes me longer to get to work now (I walk
for an hour!) but I always start the day feeling good. Even when it’s raining I
Seo-yun still walk every day. Walking to work means that I can exercise without thinking
about it. I strongly recommend it.

Hello
Thank you for starting these new staff training records. Here’s the information I can
remember. Please could you add it to the details you already have?
First of all, some words about Adam from the warehouse. He used to be the forklift
truck driver but now he’s Warehouse Manager. He’s been with us since April 2015 but
he will need more health and safety training soon.
Sofia (I think you know her well!) works with you in the office. She started exactly
one year after Adam. Her official job title is Office Assistant but as you know she does
many things, like helping to develop our website.
Johannes, our IT Manager, joined us in March this year. He’s done a lot of cyber
security training but needs to learn more about data protection. In fact, Sofia should
also do this.
Ana, our new Accounts Manager, will be joining us next week. She’s already
completed her training on our IT systems as she did that with Adam and Sofia. When
she starts we will know more about her needs; we don’t know yet. She might want to
join Adam when he does his management training course next year.
It’s important to record that Sofia did training in customer service but that was a long
time ago.
I think that’s everything for now!
Thanks for your help.
