M10 POST-TASK

Based on the video, what measures are you going to do to purify the water in each
source? Explain your answer in THREE sentences for each source.

● Lake
Water from lake may be purified through solar water disinfection method. It
simply requires sunlight and clear plastic water bottles. To take advantage of
solar power, simply fill polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles with water and
place them in the sun for six hours long enough for the sun's ultraviolet rays to kill
the parasites, bacteria, and viruses in water.

● River
River water can be purified through distillation. It is a water purification method
that utilizes heat to collect pure water in the form of vapor. This method is
effective in removing bacteria, germs, salts, and other heavy metals such as
lead, mercury, and arsenic.

● Hand pump
Hand pump water can be purified using the filtering process, which involves
passing the water through layers of gravel and sand packed in an earthen pot.
However, boiling or filtration alone does not eliminate all contaminants. So, we
must boil the water first, then filter it once it has cooled, removing both germs and
suspended contaminants.

● Pond
A good biological filtration system, along with a proper mechanical filter to
remove solids before the water enters the biological filtration unit, can be used to
purify water from pond. The primary purpose of mechanical filtration, also known
as a pond skimmer, is to remove material before it settles to the pond's bottom
and decays. The biological filter subsequently collects water that has already
passed through the mechanical filter, also known as a skimmer, which is normally
located on the pond's opposite side.

● Well
Boiling the well water for 5 minutes will purify it. This is the cheapest and safest
way to purify water. All of the microorganisms inside will be destroyed as a result
of this.
● Rain
Ultraviolet (UV) light can be used to disinfect rainwater. It acts by infiltrating an
organism's cell walls and altering the genetic makeup of the cell, rendering it
incapable of reproduction and harmless. UV lights have no effect on the chemical
composition of water and leave it unchanged and there are no by-products left
behind.

● Sea
Water from sea can be purified by adding a purification tablet. They're small,
inexpensive, effective, and simple to use because you just put them in the water.
The dosage is determined by the amount of water being treated as well as the
degree of contamination.

● Tap
Tap water can be purified using chlorine tablets or liquid chlorine. As an
off-the-shelf water purification product, chlorine is cheap and effective. When
using chlorine liquid or tablets to treat drinking water, however, extreme caution is
advised.

● Tube well
Just like well water, water from tube well may be purified by boiling it for 5
minutes. With this, all the bacteria inside it will be eliminated. However, boiling
will not be able to remove the solids and other materials inside the well water.
