Re: Mandatory Work Experience at NBCC
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada

To Whom It May Concern,

Please note that most at the New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) require students to
complete an internship or work practicum to graduate and receive their certificate or diploma.
The work placement component takes place in the final term of their program and does not
comprise more than 50% of their total program of study. Please see section 24 under Program
Information in the acceptance letter for more details on the length and field of work for this
student. For more information on any particular program, please see our website: https://nbcc.
ca/programs-courses
As per his/her acceptance letter, in order that he/she may fulfill his/her academic program
requirements, we are requesting that a work permit be given to this student, as outlined on the
Government of Canada website:
A work permit may be issued under subparagraphs 205(c)(i), (i.1) and (i.2) of the Immigration
and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR) (LMIA exemption codes C31, C32 and C33) to
foreign nationals who meet the eligibility requirements outlined below.
Exemption code C32 (co-op for post-secondary international students) is intended for foreign
nationals who intend to perform work that is an essential part of a post-secondary academic,
vocational or professional training program offered by a designated learning institution (DLI) in
Canada. The work cannot form more than 50% of the total program of study.
The acceptance letter provided by the DLI (designated learning institution) should clearly
establish that the work is an essential part of the academic, vocational or professional training
program that all participants enrolled in the program are required to complete in order to receive
their degree, diploma or certificate. The most common example is undergraduate co-op
programs at universities and colleges.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me by email or phone.
Thank you in advance.
