View of Male Sperm Cell

There are two hormones that are secreted the anterior pituitary gland found in the brain

1. Luteinizing Hormones (LH)

- It stimulates the secretion of the sex hormones (testosterone)

Testosterone – The male sex hormone

2. Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH)

- It stimulates sperm production in seminiferous tubules

Leydig Cell

- Produce Testosterone can be found in seminiferous tubules

- It is responsible for the development of the secondary male characteristic during puberty such
as the voice, the growth of the facial hair, broadening of the shoulders and development of the
muscles

The Human Sperm Cell

The Mature
Sperm Cell has three parts:

1. Head
- It contains chromosomes
- It is made up of nucleus covered by a cap called Acrosome where it is store an enzyme to
penetrate an egg cell during fertilization
2. Mid-Piece
- It contain mitochondria (the powerhouse of the cell)
- It supplies energy needed to propel the sperm to the female reproductive duct
3. Tail/Flagellum
- It is responsible for the sperm movement (Flagellar Movement)
- Powerful flagellum that enables the sperm to move
How is the sperm is being transported?

During the passage through urethra the sperm mix with the fluid produce by the neighboring
glands such as the prostate gland, seminal vesicles and bulbourethral glands. The combine secretion of
these glands collectively called Semen where in it is nourish the sperm.

How they delivered the sperm?

The urethra leads the sperm cell through the penis which is the male organ that deposits the
sperm in the female reproductive system during the sexual intercourse. Another term of sexual
intercourse is copulation. During the sexual excitation the blood pushes in to the penis making it ridged
and erect. The sperm exit the penis through the process called ejaculation. After the semen is deposited,
the sperm cell swim until they encountered the sperm cell. If any of the sperm does not penetrate the
egg cell, fertilization does not occur. On an average about 3.5 milliliters of the sperm cell that is the
volume expelled during the ejaculation all about 10 million in just one drop. Only of few which of them
die in a female reproductive duct because of acidic environment in vagina.

Female Reproductive System

Ovary

- It responsible for production of egg cell

- They are located inside the abdominal cavity just slightly below the waist with one ovary

Estrogen

- Is one of the hormone

- It triggers the secondary female characteristics such as widening of the hips, and enlargement of
the breast
- The matured egg cell starts around at the age of 11-14

During the first stage of menstrual cycle they call it menarche opposite of menopause. The site of
fertilization start on fallopian tube

Menstrual Cycle

What are the changes of the ovary when the menstrual cycle begins?

The Corpus Luteum continuous to produce progesterone for several weeks otherwise the
production slows down and stops the ovarian cycle. Other changes in the ovaries occurs the menstrual
cycle.

The menstrual cycle last for average of 28 days, these event in the menstrual cycle are controlled by the
changes level the progesterone and the estrogen hormone prior to and after ovulation and increase
level of the level. It controls the lining of the uterus, it thickens and it will shed. When this happen the
bleeding occurs. The mixture of blood and discarded tissues leaves the body through vagina in a process
called menstruation which usually occurs 14 days after ovulation. At the end of ovarian neither estrogen
nor the progesterone is being produce. This signals the pituitary gland to produce the FSH and LH
starting the cycles again.
Ovarian cycle is a cycle happens in the ovary that and release matured egg cell. The menstrual cycle
signals the ovarian cycle when the cycle is finish. The fertilization that happens in our body.
