What questions about life are you struggling to find answers to?
- I am really an inquisitive person who is eager and always ready to find and seek answers to
the questions I have in my mind. But I can say that, not all of my questions is and was being
answered; some still remain undetermined. Is there an after- life? Do purgatory really exist?
Do reincarnation truly happen? Why do people strive and want more despite of their
overflowing blessings and Why do we tend to consider others’ perspective in making a
decision? These are the questions I am still endeavoring to answer up until now.

1. What are the reasons that compel a person to engage in philosophical thinking?
-Human have this nature of being inquisitive and anticipatedly curious about things. I think this is the
reason why we tend to be into thinking philosophically and critically. We wanted to answer the
underlying questions we have, so thinking comprehensively (philosophical thinking) can help us since
it constantly debates with assumptions, believes and opinions. Philosophical thinking can also
heighten or broaden our knowledge so people wanted to participate this way of thinking because
learning both wisdom and knowledge are considered to be never ending. Doubt can also be a factor
why we are wanting to philosophize.

Based on the characteristics of Philosophy, would it be possible for any person you engage in
philosophical discussion? Why or Why not?
- Philosophy is the study that deals with finding and arriving for the truths and answers toward
the underlying questions people have in their minds. I believe that Philosophical discussion or
rationalizing to arrive at a better understanding can be participated and be for anyone.
Philosophy is for everyone. Having an intellect and understanding things more critically can be
for every human being since it is a kind of discipline designed to be engaged for anyone. So,
for those people who believe that philosophical discussion is only meant for philosophers,
well, I beg to disagree because just like what Socrates stated, “Philosophy is an approach to
seek truth in order to be able to live lives more wisely”. It is the every human person’s right
place to begin with.

Cite a situation where you adopted a holistic view in looking at a problem or situation? How adapting a
holistic view help you make sense of the situation?
- I can still remember the time when my friend approached and told me how “pasaway” a Filipino is
after finding and seeing the bulk of people who had forgotten to follow the safety protocols just to be
able to ride a public transport. If I just look and judge at it using the partial point of view, I can say
that they are so stubborn for not following the right safety protocol of doing social distancing but
since I had adopted the holistic point of view or looking and seeing at all the perspective first before
judging, I arrive at this conclusion. Yes, they tend not to follow the safety protocols of the Department
of Health but I know there is a specific reason that will justify why they are not following it. Maybe,
they really need to go and be inside the bus since they might arrive late on their works or any other
justifiable and reasonable reasons. I don’t think that they will just risk their lives and not abide the
DOH if there is no underlying reason. Having a considerate and critical minds can produce a better
judgement and discernment since in this point of view, one is considering others’ beliefs and opinions
before judging. This can somewhat make sense of the situation because we are able to look at it in its
totality.
- Having a comprehensive, critical and considerate mind who looks at all the aspects (aspects are
given importance when making conclusions) before forming a general conclusion or overview for
me, is the greatest possession one can have. This can truly help and mold us to be the better
version of our imperfect selves since we tend to find sources of information relevant to the
situation before judging. We can also produce and make better judgements since the opinions and
discernments of others are given importance.

- We cannot see the virus and up until now there - This disease made the word full of uncertainty and
is still no cure (vaccine). So what we should do is confusion. God is our provider and the impeccable
to prevent getting ill or infected by means of one who can stop the chaos that we are experiencing
following the DOH’s safety protocols and be more as of today.

- I will not go outside because I might get ill. I will - In order to prevent having one, we must only go
also drink multi vitamins and water to stay outside if it is necessary. Also, we must do the safety
hydrated. protocols like rubbing the alcohol in our hands, using
face masks and many more. If a family member had
gone outside, he/ she first needs to take a bath to
prevent the household and him/ her in spreading the
virus or dirt.

1. Among the needs that drive the man to philosophize, which is most relevant to you.
- I am an advocate who believe that curiosity really urged us to do specific and certain things. So to
answer the question, the sense of wonder is the most relevant for me. I believe that the others can
also drive us, humans, to philosophize but since we are naturally inquisitive and curious, this for me
is the best indicator that pushes us to be engaged in seeking or finding the underlying answers on
our unknown and specific questions.
2.What philosophical questions do you wish to be answered as you study this course?
-I am born having a curious but comprehensive mind. Thus, I am really inquisitive about the
complexion and broadness of this life’s existence so through this course I am hoping that the
following questions will be answered. What happened after- life? Why do people tend to prioritize
others more than themselves? How can life be a place worth living knowing that there are nasty
things existing in this world? Why do people tend not to apply the essence of the word
contentment in their lives and Why do love considered the happiest feeling but the saddest feeling
at the same time?
3.Describe a situation in your life when you were able to engage in philosophy. What circumstances
or dilemma brought about your need to philosophize? How did philosophy help you address your
situation?
- There was a time when we saw (in a social media platform) a mother pushing her child in a road
hardly. I am really torn about asking her why she did that and just being silent. It really makes me
wonder why did she do that? What are the underlying reasons why she hit her child whose age
ranging from 4-5? I really want to judge her and post nasty comments about her cruelness. But
since according to philosophy, I must use the holistic point of view, I had searched some
information about the mother of that video and had known that she pushed her child hardly
because there was a car approaching, so she needs to push her child in order for her child not to be
into a car accident. If I had posted nasty comments without looking for other relevant information,
I might hurt the feeling of the mother involved. If I didn’t think critically, I would not have arrived
into the real truth and had not done a better judgement.
4. Reflect on your life so far. Can you say that you have lived a meaningful life, considering all your
experiences and achievements? What do you consider as the highlights of your life? What are the
things you are looking forward in the future?
- My life is not just like us walking in a stairway, it is really hard. In my 17 years of existence, I had
experienced problems that indeed challenges me personally. But despite of this, I can say that I had
lived here in this world having a meaningful, productive and peaceful life. I have a lot of highlights
when it comes to the experiences I had encountered. My first words who allowed me to speak my
thoughts and beliefs, my first stand who first let me be an independent person. My first medal
which I had acquired when I graduated valedictorian in my kinder days. My first big achievement
when I passed the STE entrance exam. My first cry because of being so devastated due to the tons
of home works and activities. Lastly, me being considered to be the General Tinio National High
School’s Valedictorian in the year 2018-2019. I am grateful and very much blessed because even
though I know that I am not perfect and is indeed far from being an impeccable one, I believe that I
am a much better version and person because of the things I had encountered. Right now, I am
looking forward and hoping that in the future, I can work in either a public (government) or private
law firm as a CPA lawyer. Through this I can somewhat serve and be a change by means of seeking
for justice and not for the money. I want to change the people’s perspective about our justice
system. I want to promote a just and fair justice system and this would result a peaceful life worth
living. May God help me in the process.
