Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division of Radicals
Definition
Radicals are called like radicals when they have the same index and the same radicand. If these are
the same, then addition and subtraction are possible. If not, then you cannot combine or subtract the
two radicals.
Rules
EXAMPLE 1:
Perform each indicated operation.

To multiply monomials containing radical expressions with the same index, multiply their coefficients and
the radicals separately. Then, simplify the result whenever possible.
