The Department of Architecture advocates a design philosophy that draws inspiration

from the rich cultural heritage of India while simultaneously embracing the developments in
arts, science, engineering and technology, to produce Architects of international competence.
The School Started in 1992 with the mission to educate students aspiring to become
Architects, who will contribute to the socio-economic and cultural development of India and
the broader global community through responsible participation in the process of design and
creation of the built environment. The department has eminent faculty members, comprising
of experienced professors, practicing architects, associate professors and assistant
professors. Our distinguished faculty members represent an unparalleled range of design
philosophies and visions since they have specialized in diverse areas such as Digital
Architecture, City Planning, Urban Design, Project Management, Housing, Landscape
Architecture, Energy Efficient and Sustainable Architecture etc. Some of them have been
consultants to various corporate and governmental organizations for a number of prestigious
design projects.
The School of Architecture and Interior Design has won the “Best Architecture and
Interior Design School of the Year 2020” award and “Quality Infrastructure and Innovative
Academic Approach” award for the year 2020 from National Architecture and Interior Design
Excellence Awards and Conference, 2020. Department of Architecture has put together
numerous special lectures, adjunct architect reviews, International talks series, Celebrity talk
series, Special Learning Sessions, workshops and webinars for the benefit of students.
However, the epitome of success this year was the department successfully conducting
International Conference on Built Environment Science and Technology – ICON BEST 2021.
ICON-BEST 2021 had been a forum to bring together researchers, academicians,

scientists, and budding entrepreneurs and industry professionals to discuss innovative ideas
and diverse topics in the area of sustainable practices and technologies like climatic
facades/kinetic facades, energy efficient built environment, eco-friendly building materials
and energy-resource management at large. It was a magnet for expert speakers from all over
the globe- the event drew celebrity, research scholars and alumni speakers from countries
including Australia, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Spain, Thailand, United
Kingdom, United States, etc. More than 1000+ attendees, paper presenters, keynote and
tutorial participants, students have benefited in many ways from this conference. More than
100 scientific papers were presented by authors from across the world. 16 eminent Keynote
Speakers from different countries shared knowledge and rich experience on recent
innovations, trends, concerns and practical challenges in the field of building science. Around
70+ Celebrity speakers gave rich and insightful talks pertaining to building science and
sustainability. Around 10 session chairs were identified to critically review all 90 research
papers and provided their valuable feedback and comments to improve the quality of the
paper. All papers underwent double blind peer review by the internal and external scientific
team to analyze its quality, feedback was delivered on the second day of the conference.
We have been in association with various industry and technical experts such as
ASSOCHAM-GEM and Indian Green Building Council. We have also been actively involved with
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia to bring in international exposure to our students in the form
of crits and collaborative studios. However, the highlight of studying with us is the Semester
Abroad Program, where students spend a semester at some of the best universities around
the world. This golden opportunity allows students to broaden their horizon, make contact,
make use of world class labs and share/utilize their knowledge once they come back to the
mother institute.
The Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) is a 10-semester program offered in the

department and is recognized as one of India's premier and the most comprehensive
programs in Architecture due to its thrust on contemporary issues and its continuous
interaction with practicing architects of repute. It also offers a large number of elective
studies, ensuring flexibility and a choice-based education tailored to meet student’s area of
interest, be it urban design, landscape architecture, housing, project management, city
planning etc. The program is approved by the Council of Architecture, New Delhi and was the
first in South India to be accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (AICTE), in 2001.
The Master of Architecture (M.Arch) is one of the most innovative programs in India,
and it prepares young graduates to meet the challenges thrown up by the ever changing
needs of contemporary society. This professional degree is structured to educate those who
aspire to create masterpieces of complex architecture including large scale infrastructure
projects and metro level urban facilities. It aims to train architects in the design & construction
of tall buildings, airports, mass rapid transportation terminals, stadiums and environmental
planning projects for large areas. It also places special emphasis on creating socially and
environmentally conscious designs. The students also learn to evaluate their design for
sustainability and energy efficiency through performance evaluation tools. The program
places due importance to research and students will be encouraged and provided guidance
to be part of the research community. The outcome of this course is to create vibrant leaders
in architecture who can pursue and practice their school of thought for building a brighter
tomorrow.
The department facilitates extensive interaction with the design community at large
and architects in particular. The architecture studios are enhanced by the participation and
guidance of leading luminaries from the profession, who apart from inspiring the students to
excel in their creative endeavors, also bring a tremendous quantum of professional know-
how to complement and balance the theoretical inputs from the faculty members. The
Architecture Association is a student body that ensures Industry-Institute interaction by
organizing a series of special lectures, workshops and product presentations.
The Department of Architecture has taken various research initiatives over the years
to mobilize the available knowledge resources for research and produce innovative solutions.
Over 40 research projects are currently being pursued by internal and external scholars from
various parts of the country under myriad domains including Green Architecture, Smart City,
Acoustics, Lighting, Thermal comfort, Energy Efficiency, Urban design, Robotics in
construction, Phycology in Architecture, Indoor Air Quality, Biophilic Architecture, Urban Heat
Islands etc. We create a stimulating, constructive and supportive environment for our staff
and students to undertake high quality research. We also portray the school as a center for
the highest quality research and scholarship.
The Department has an infrastructure of 45,000 sq.ft area, comprising of the Dean
office, Administrative office, Individual cabins for professors and staff rooms for the teaching
faculty, studios, lecture halls, smart class rooms, display hall, conference room, model making
lab, material library, model making workshop, material museum, construction yard and
survey lab. Department library of 2000 sq.ft area has 6766 books of 3355 titles and bound
volumes of journals, periodicals and thesis reports. The library is well supported with
computer terminal and internet facility. Books on a wide range of topics including but not
limited to Architecture, Art, History and civilization, Urban design, Landscape design, Interior
design, Furniture design, Graphics, Computer aided design, Building Services,
Structural design, Earthquake Engineering, Construction planning and management, Urban
and regional planning, Housing, Environmental planning, Remote sensing, GIS etc can be
found in abundance in the library. Apart from this, our library has subscribed to a wide range
of e-journals. Our 2700 sq.ft state of the art computer lab is well equipped to provide
computer based analysis, design & drafting skills to the students and to carry out research.
The computers are installed with high end software such as AUTOCAD, Revit, 3ds Max, Adobe
photoshop, IES-VE, ODEON acoustic simulation software and various rendering software.
Graduate and undergraduate students use the School's fabrication shops in support of studio
and course work assignments, as well as for independent projects. The fabrication shop has
fully equipped facilities for building models, fabricating furniture and sculpting with imported
machines & tools. All students undertake intensive exercises in solid modeling and detailing,
exposing them to a wide range of tools and procedures.
