I. SCOPE
This test covers the requirements for testing cold check on finished lacquer coated wood panels.
Reference ASTM 1211-87 which has been modified from a low of -5° to -20° to better represent the
climate our units will see. Also, the samples are cycled in the Environmental Chamber instead of
directly from oven to freezer. [2]
II. APPARATUS
- Environmental Chamber
IV. PROCEDURE
A. Place the panel(s) in the environmental chamber in a rack holding the panels vertically.
B. Run the chamber for seven (7) cycles with each cycle consisting of a minimum of one (1) hour
at 120 degrees F and a minimum of one (1) hour at –20 degrees F.
V. REPORT
The report shall include the following:
4. The presence of cold check after seven (7) cycles (amount of cold check defined qualitatively).
5. The presence of cold check after ten (10) cycles (amount of cold check defined qualitatively).
