1 Overview
1.1 Objective
This document describes the procedure and step by step operation for replacing a
faulty UMPT in a BBU3900. It guides onsite and remote engineers to perform the
UMPT replacement by both locally and remotely ways. And meet maintenance
engineers expectation that reducing the service interruption and the site visiting
times.
2.1 Prerequisites
Confirm the UMPT board was faulty, and a new board has been prepared.
Prepare the MBTS Software, save inside local PC for LMT local upgrading or upload to OSS server
Associated personnel have gained permission to access the site and have obtained the required
keys.
1 Use the BKP CFGFILE command to back up the current configuration of the BS. □Yes
□No
2 Use the ULD CFGFILE command to upload a backup configuration file to an FTP server. □Yes
(FTP Server IP should be Local PC IP address, for example:192.168.0.88, □No
Username:admin, Password: hwbs@com by default, and need choose one working
directory in your PC where you want save this backed up data file.)
2 Save alarm through U2000: Unclick cleared alarms. Right click and save all records in □Yes
local computer □No
1 If is the base station is a GBTS, Run the LST GCELL command on the BSC to query the □Yes
administrative state of the cells under the base station. Then, run the SET GCELLADMSTAT □No
command with the ADMSTAT parameter set to LOCK to block all cells under the base station.
If is the base station is a eGBTS, Run the BLK GLOCELL command on the eGBTS to block all
cells under the eGBTS.
If is the base station is a NodeB, Run the BLK ULOCELL command on the NodeB to block all
cells under the NodeB.
If is the base station is a eNodeB, Run the BLK CELL command on the NodeB to block all
cells under the eNodeB.
2. Record all the cable connections on the panel of the module to be replaced.
3. Remove the transmission cable from the UMPT. If a surge protection board is configured,
the surge protection transfer cable also needs to be removed, as shown in the following figure.
4. Loosen the two M3 screws on the panel, raise the ejector lever, and pull out the UMPT, as
shown in the following figure.
CAU TION:
When removing a board, hold the board with both hands and remove it from the subrack
slowly.
When transporting a board, hold the board with both hands.

5. Install the new board, lower the ejector levers, tighten the screws on the board panel to 0.6
N·m (5.31 lbf·in.), and reconnect the cables.
2 Check the status of the new board by observing the status of indicators. For details about the □Yes
status of the indicators □No
RUN Green Steady on There is power supply, but the board is faulty.
Blinking (on for 0.125s and The board is being loaded or configured.
off for 0.125s)
The board is not started.
ALM Red Steady on An alarm is generated, and the board needs to be replaced.
Blinking (on for 1s and off An alarm is generated, and you need to locate the fault
for 1s) before determining whether to replace the board.
Blinking (on for 0.125s and The operation and maintenance link (OML) is disconnected.
off for 0.125s)
Blinking (on for 1s and off The board is being tested, for example, going through an
for 1s) RRU voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) test by using a
USB flash drivea.NOTE:
Only the UMPTb1 and UMPTb2 working in UMTS mode
and the UMPTa1 have this indicator status.
Blinking (In every 4s, the Some cells configured for the subrack that houses this
indicator is on for 0.125s board are not activated.
and off for 0.125s [eight
times] in the first 2s and The S1 link is faulty.
then off for 2s.) NOTE:
Only the UMPTb1 and UMPTb2 working in LTE mode,
UMPTa2, and UMPTa6 have this indicator status.
1 Use the LST VER command to list the information about the software version running on the □Yes
new board. □No
If the same version as the old UMPT, directly go to step 6 to restore MBTS Data. If different,
continue.
2 Use the LST SOFTWARE command to list the information about the software stored on the □Yes
NE. □No
3 Prepare the new software version inside local PC, and start SFTP server. □Yes
(PS: the working directory should be the folder where you saved MBTS software.) □No
4 (GUI Mode) Download and Activate the MBTS software from the FTP server to the MBTS. □Yes
1.Choose Device Maintenance. □No
2.Double-click Software management.
3.Choose all (Download Version Software.need choose No(Not Delay Download)) ,Browse
the software version and the backed up configuration file which saved inside local PC, then
Execute.
5(Op If not use Step4 GUI mode, can use MML command step by step to restore it. □Yes
tional 1.Download MBTS Software by MML command: DLD SOFTWARE, FTP Server Directory □No
) Name should be the one saved software version. and the save with SFTP Server working
directory.
Right click SFTPServer, configure it, the working directory should choose the folder where
saved the backed up data.
3.Activate MBTS configuration file by MML command: ACT CFGFILE (choose parameter:
EFT=AFTER_RESET)
1 If is the base station is a GBTS, Run SET GCELLADMSTAT command with the ADMSTAT □Yes
parameter set to UNLOCK to unblock all cells
□No
If is the base station is a eGBTS,Run the UBL GLOCELL command on the eGBTS to
unblock all cells under the eGBTS.
If is the base station is a NodeB, Run the UBL ULOCELL command unblock all cells.
If is the base station is a eNodeB, Run the UBL CELL command unblock all cells.
1 Use the LST VER command to list the information about the software version running on the NE. □Yes
□No
2 Use the LST SOFTWARE command to list the information about the software stored on the NE. □Yes
□No
2) Compare the Current Site Alarms with the Saved alarms(Same steps with Task 3)
3) Query Site Running Status on LMT——Local Operation
Step Description Fulfilled
1 Use the DSP GBTSABISCP command to query the transmission bearing status of the Abis control □Yes
port for an eGBTS: AVAILABLE and UNAVAILABLE. □No
