OBJECTIVES: - write sentences using the past simple, ‘used to’ and ‘be/get used to’
- complete 8 exercises by choosing the correct answers between the past simple,
‘used to’ or ‘be/get used to’
6. Pupils find examples of the Past Simple ‘used to’ or ‘be/get used to’ assigned to their group in the reading
text they did in the previous lesson
7. Pupils in their group come up with their on sentences practising the tense they were assigned to
8. Pupils share the answers in steps g and h with the class
9. Pupils complete the grammar exercise on page 15 and share answers with the pair and then as a class
POST LESSON (5 minutes)
10. Pupils review learning in this lesson by writing six sentences.

1. use the appropriate formal and informal registers in the speaking test environment by completing part
1 of the sample speaking paper
2. explain and justify their feelings in the previous speaking test that they experienced in at least 3
sentences.
SUCCESS CRITERIA
2. Pupils work in pairs and discuss the following question: What is the appropriate register to use when
speaking to an examiner in a speaking test? Why?
3. Pupils discuss in pairs or small groups. Pupils share the answers as a class
4. Pupils work in pairs: A and B
5. Pupil A takes on the role of the examiner to ask two questions from the likes and dislikes.
6. Pupil B answers the questions
7. The pairs then swap roles
8. Pupil B asks two questions from the remaining questions and Pupil A answers
9. At the end of the role play rounds, pupils explain in pairs or small groups the feelings they
experienced in the previous speaking tests.
10. Selected pupils share with the rest of the class their feelings about past speaking tests and
encourage the class to ask them to justify these feelings
POST-LESSON (5 minutes)
1. Pupils review their learning in this lesson by completing an exit card about the speaking activities:
‘what they were able to do well in the activities?’ and ‘what they found particularly challenging about
the activities?’
