ACTIVITIES:
Provide a brief description of activities in lesson and the approximate time for each activity
Instantly activity (5 min) The teacher grouped the students and informed them that they would be
learning the five fundamental volleyball kills. She informed them that, although volleyball is a great
game to play with strategy, they must first master the fundamentals.
Teacher arranged different stations for Volleyball skills.
Students practiced the following volleyball skills (25 min)
1. Serve
2. Block
3. Underhand pass/set
4. Overhead pass
5. Spike
The teacher explained each activity to the students and performed each skill to them, as well as
explaining the precautions that must be considered while doing Volleyball skills. The student followed all
of the teacher's instructions and completed the exercise as directed.
STRATEGIES:
Describe the teaching style(s) used
Practice style - the instructor showed the activity and allows students to practice and build abilities at
their own speed. As students completed the assigned activities, the instructor went around the room
providing individual and group comments. For example, the instructor showed how to serve in volleyball.
The instructor walked around the room delivering feedback while students practiced their serving
technique.
How does the teacher help students internalize essential knowledge? (Ask questions, have student re-state
information, give examples)
Asking crucial questions regarding the activity being done was one of the ways in which teachers assisted
students in internalizing and retaining their information. Throughout a unit of education, these questions
were asked in order to assist students in making connections and seeing the larger picture about the skill
and the volleyball game.
How does the teacher encourage critical thinking through emphasizing accuracy and clarity? (Link
information to prior knowledge)
The teacher encouraged critical thinking through emphasizing accuracy and clarity by asking questions
regarding the steps of the volleyball skills. Students were encouraged to think more deeply about what
they were doing by their instructor. She questioned skills that required students to engage in cognitive
reflection on the specific learning objective they were attempting to master. During the lesson she often
asked questions that required a response regarding technique.
MANAGEMENT:
Describe how the teacher organized and prepared the classroom prior to class.
The teacher set up the equipment before class (with my help), putting the equipment where it needed to
be before the students arrived. She arranged different stations for teaching volleyball skills. The stations
were as follows:
1. Serve
2. Block
3. Underhand pass/set
4. Overhead pass
5. Spike
Preparing the physical environment of the classroom prior to the entrance of students was one method of
improving the learning environment and preventing problem behaviors before they occurred.
EQUIPMENT:
How is equipment distributed and collected?
Equipment was distributed and collected for the students prior to arrival by the pe teacher and me.
STUDENTS’ BEHAVIOR:
How does the teacher help students develop a sense of comfort and order?
The teacher developed a sense of comfort and order by teaching students’ effective procedures for the
many practical tasks that were performed during the lesson. For example, students knew how to enter the
classroom and become immediately engaged in a learning activity. They also knew how to get the
teacher’s attention without disrupting the class. The teacher also provided clear behavioral and academic
expectations right from the beginning, so students knew what was expected of them all the time.
To what extent do students demonstrate that they feel positive about themselves, their peers, their
instructor, and the tasks they are assigned?
Students demonstrated that they felt positive about themselves, their peers, their instructor, and the tasks
they were assigned by engaging with their peers and the instructor for the whole lesson. The positive
feedback given by the instructor had a huge impact on the students’ perception of themselves and
consequently influenced their effort. In addition, students gained more confidence in their abilities as they
improved. Students expressed positive feelings about the lesson and the tasks that were assigned by
having fun, interacting positively, and socializing with peers.
What characteristics does the teacher possess that makes the entire lesson an enjoyable, productive
experience for the students?
The instructor was competent to promote learning. She was able to distill complicated concepts into
simple actions that students can readily follow, which will help them feel more positive about physical
exercise. She was able to identify which kids need further encouragement or a different approach to
explaining and measuring learning. Throughout the lesson, she was engaging with the students and
ensuring that they were all learning something new. She was enthusiastic in assisting learners who were
learning volleyball skills. Working with students may be tiring, but the teacher maintained her
enthusiasm throughout the lesson, making it both educational and enjoyable. She also ensured that the
students were safe and secure throughout instruction, which required them to move about and be in big
groups.
