INSTRUCTOR- FIELD STUDY 1

May 2022
INTRODUCTION
Field Study 1 is the first in a series of six sequential studies in the Bachelor of
Elementary Education and the Bachelor of Secondary Education Programs (BEED and
BSED) offered by the Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs). Field study 1 is linked with
a professional education subject. It is the prerogative of the TEI to match with an
appropriate subject such as Child and Adolescent Development, Principles of Teaching,
or Facilitating Learning.
The focus of Field Study 1 is observation of the learners, school structure and the
community. Since this is the first time the student teachers have been exposed to the
school environment, they are expected to take note of the school and classroom facilities,
and the organizational set-up of the school. The PSTs shall observe the behavior of the
learners in the actual learning environment. Based on their observations of learners, PSTs
shall develop their understanding on feasible approaches to facilitate learning considering
the various phases of growth and development.
To assist their transition, the students will be paired with a “buddy”. Included in FS 1 is
the enhancement of the students’ communication skills with his/her buddy since they are
expected to be adequate in the language they will be using during their hands-on teaching
in the remaining field studies

FIELD STUDY- AN OVERVIEW

Field Study 1 will introduce student observers to the learner’s behavior in the different phases of
development, school environment and the school community. It offers those opportunities and
prospects for career development as they observe the school structure, the classrooms, the
school facilities, the teachers, the parents, and the students. This observation course provides
them avenues to enhance their communication skills as they exchange ideas with their buddy,
with the cooperating teachers, with pupils, and with parents. This observation includes the way
teachers interact with each other, with students, with parents, and other stakeholders
The field study 1 is an educational technique, which makes the educational process more active,
helps the students to work in real situations and to develop skills, competencies and positive
attitudes through activation of their existing ones.
Field Study 1 is intended to provide education students with practical learning experiences in
which they can observe, verify, reflect on, and actually participate in the dynamics of the
teaching-learning process in traditional school settings.

PROFESSIONAL READING
The Art of Questioning

Differentiated instruction, also called differentiation, is a process through which teachers

enhance learning by matching student characteristics to instruction and assessment.
Differentiated instruction allows all students to access the same classroom curriculum by
providing entry points, learning tasks, and outcomes that are tailored to students' needs (Hall,
Strangman, & Meyer, 2003). Differentiated instruction is not a single strategy, but rather an
approach to instruction that incorporates a variety of strategies.
Teachers can differentiate content, process, and/or product for students (Tomlinson, 1999).
Differentiation of content refers to a change in the material being learned by a student. For
example, if the classroom objective is for all students to subtract using renaming, some of the
students may learn to subtract two-digit numbers, while others may learn to subtract larger
numbers in the context of word problems. Differentiation of process refers to the way in which a
student accesses material. One student may explore a learning center, while another student
collects information from the web. Differentiation of product refers to the way in which a student
shows what he or she has learned. For example, to demonstrate understanding of a geometric
concept, one student may solve a problem set, while another builds a model.
When teachers differentiate, they do so in response to a student's readiness, interest, and/or
learning profile. Readiness refers to the skill level and background knowledge of the child.
Interest refers to topics that the student may want to explore or that will motivate the student.
This can include interests relevant to the content area as well as outside interests of the student.
Finally, a student's learning profile includes learning style (i.e., a visual, auditory, tactile, or
kinesthetic learner), grouping preferences (i.e., individual, small group, or large group), and
environmental preferences (i.e., lots of space or a quiet area to work). A teacher may
differentiate based on any one of these factors or any combination of factors (Tomlinson, 1999).

My Analysis on the Lesson as Taught by the Teacher:

The teacher loves her work. I saw it in the way she speaks and shows her gestures. When
I look at her, she is a wonderful teacher. She has a good voice, so the discussion is clear.
Teacher Mariane successfully implemented learning goals for family concepts, such as a family
of two parents, a family of one parent, and finally, an extended family. The teacher goals that
students need to learned, have been achieved and successfully applied to them. Marian's class
was great. My expectations were high when she started the class. And she did a great job. Marian
did it well. She delivered perfectly from start until the end of discussion. My expectations
were met.

My Reflection/ Insights on the Lesson:

I have a lot of things that I have learned from ma’am mariane june M. Manalo, Teachers
have always different teaching strategy, In the strategy of ma’am mariane I also want to apply it
when I become a teacher in the future. Teaching elementary grades is difficult if you don’t have
the patience in yourself your children will not come up to your lesson, because elementary
grades are the one who need more effort to learned like ma’am mariane did to her educational
video. She’s always repeating the lesson to make the students understand, that’s why I love the
way she discuss the lesson, she is not only talking in the front but it has a love and sincerity in
her profession that I saw in her eyes. Those strategy that she used I am going to treasured it,
because I will used it if I become a licensed professional teacher soon.

 The teacher asked the students before the session ended, she gave an assignment to them,
got a piece of paper and pencil and wrote the following. Give the correspondence answer
in the blank. You can ask for assistance from your family members.
 The lesson ends by introducing herself again
My Analysis on the Lesson as Taught by the Teacher:
The teacher is good at teaching. She has a different strategy on how she can explain all
the content of the discussion. She had incorporated all the necessary things such as the
environment. She had a good voice, this is one of the impacts, so that the students will listen
carefully and will not feel bored in discussing a specific lesson. And as far as we know this
subject, some students don’t like Mathematics. They had said that this is full of numbers,
equations, and formulas. But as Ma'am Louie said, you need to enhance yourself in discovering
and studying this subject, because in the end, you will see the enjoyment looking at the different
numbers. From the start of her discussion, until the time she gave an activity and up to the last,
she became confident and consistent in delivering her discussion to her class.
My Reflection/ Insights on the Lesson:
In this discussion, I had learned so much, in dealing with numbers. Because numbers are
important in our lives. We can count everything, all the things that we can see around us. And
upon her discussion, I just learned and I want to become like her, because she had given a
strategy on how she can deliver her message to the class. Teaching elementary students, for me it
is difficult, because you need more patience to teach them these different lessons. If you do not
do this, they will suffer in the coming grades, and some people will blame you, because you
didn’t teach them well in terms of this lesson. And one thing that I had seen of Ma'am Louie, she
always repeated her discussion from the beginning up to the end. She always mentioned the
importance of numbers in our lives, and that we shall use them today, tomorrow and in the near
future.

My Analysis on the Lesson as Taught by the Teacher:

Teacher Aiza became an effective and resourceful teacher. I enjoyed how she discusses
and teaches her students. She can explain thoroughly the discussion she prepared. Upon her
discussion, I just noticed that she is good at singing, that's why she used it as a way of catching
the attention of her students, a beautiful voice of Teacher Aiza. Next, the teacher used hand
gestures, this is one way to support and guide some students. The teacher was well-trained and
the professionalism was shown in the discussion. That’s why I liked how she taught and
discussed. She had incorporated all the necessary things in connection in classifying, identifying
and recognizing different sounds. Lastly, all of the actions that Teacher Aiza did can become a
guide for me. To become a productive and energetic teacher. From the start of her discussion,
until the time she gave an activity and up to the last, she became confident and consistent in
delivering her discussion to her class.

My Reflection/ Insights on the Lesson:

In giving my reflection, I just learned and discovered how to become a productive and
effective teacher in the near future. I admired her for being good in professionalism, on my part
as I am taking Education. I will apply it to myself, so that my students will never be bored and
enjoy the discussions that I teach them and also they will surely remember me, as a good teacher
and a friend to them. Next, I like the way she spoke. She became consistent and confident in
terms of discussing different topics. Her momentum in discussing has become consistent. This is
one thing that I want to have in myself. The consistency and independence in doing teaching.
And she reminds us that English is so fun and it is for everyone. I enjoyed watching this lesson.
And upon her discussion, I just learned and I want to become like her, because she had given a

an Educator I can use these things as an example to my discussion, and it will become a difficult
from me because it is my own experience. And it is possible that I will remember them and
reminisced all my past experiences in life. Like what the Teacher Lyn did to her discussion. All
of the discussion she had, I easily understand it because I see and I experienced to socialized to
other people. And we must remember that we need to listen and discover what we shall do when
they are some people sharing a story to us. Next, I like the way she spoke. She became consistent

My Analysis on the Lesson as Taught by the Teacher:
Teacher Mar is an effective and energetic teacher. He is well-prepared in discussing his
specific topic. He can catch the attention of his students, because of his soft-spoken voice that is
why the lesson can be easily understood because of the strategies he did. He gives the motivation
and perseverance in answering the activities that he prepared for his class. In his lesson, he gave
different examples in connection to the topic such as the affixes, suffixes, prefixes, and the root
word. It was not difficult on my part because it was taught in the school. That’s why I liked how
she taught and discussed. He had incorporated all the necessary things in connection to the
prefixes, affixes, and suffixes, and also by discussing what the root word all about is. His
momentum in teaching became present until the last part of his discussion. And from the start of
her discussion, until the time he gave the activities and up to the last, he became confident and
consistent in delivering her discussion to his class.
My Reflection/ Insights on the Lesson:
In reflecting on this lesson, I am inspired by Sir Mar, because he became confident and
he was consistent in what he had said from the first part of his discussion and up to the last part,
the topic became effective and substantial that’s why students will surely remember this
discussion. As we start learning it is important to know better these affixes, suffixes, prefixes,
and root words so that we can integrate and use them in the near future. For me, I can use these
in communicating and giving some instructions to my students in the future years. And I can use
these things as an example to my discussion. Next, in the discussion proper, he always repeats
his lesson and he wants to emphasize the discussion well. And in that as a student who is taking
an Education program. I want to apply it to myself, the one where I discuss the different topics
that they will give to me and discuss it properly in my class. And also the strategy on how I can
have an interaction with my dearly beloved students. Lastly, I enjoyed the class discussion. It
was a pleasure to see how the teacher became an effective facilitator in his class.

• She ended her discussion by giving a reminder that “When we are studying Math there
are no difficulties in solving a problem, the students must enjoy studying this subject.
And she introduces herself again in the last part of the video.

My Analysis on the Lesson as Taught by the Teacher:

Teacher Vicky is a good facilitator and smiling teacher. As we all know that she is
teaching one of the subjects that some students don’t like to learn and discover the different
numbers. But for her, she became confident in discussing the topic, “Place Value and the Value
from 1 to 10,000. She used hand gestures so that it may help for those students who cannot
understand, she had an alternative way on how she can deliver her discussion to all of her
students. She can catch the attention of his students, because of his soft-spoken voice, that is why
the lesson can be easily understood because of the strategies he did. The teacher gave positive
vibes so that the whole class will become motivated and persevere in understanding and
discovering the relevance of place value and value in the mathematics world. Her momentum in
teaching became present until the last part of his discussion. And from the start of her discussion,
until the time she gave the different activities from first and second part of the discussion and up
to the last, she became consistent in delivering her discussion to her class.
My Reflection/ Insights on the Lesson:
In giving my insight from this lesson. I enjoyed listening and watching this discussion on
how Ma’am Vicky discussed the topic of “place value” and “value.” And in the second part on
“how to read and write numbers from 1 to 10,000.” For me as I am taking Major in Elementary
Education, it is a challenge for me on how to discuss thoroughly in terms of numbers. And in that
I flashback all the memories of when I am in the Elementary years. I need to study and discover
some strategy on how I can teach this subject. In teaching in Elementary, in Grade 3, the teacher
must know the different areas of the subject. So, similar to Ma’am Vicky, I want to become like
her in that she is confident in discussing her topic with her students. I want to apply it to myself,
the one where I discuss the different topics that they will give to me and discuss it properly in my
class. Lastly, I enjoyed the class discussion. It was a pleasure and privilege to see how the
teacher became an effective facilitator in his class.

had discussed, the skeletal system of our human body.
 He ended his discussion by assuming that for the next discussion they will learn more
through the online classroom. And he introduces himself again in the last part of the
video.

My Analysis on the Lesson as Taught by the Teacher:

Teacher Ju is an effective and soft-spoken teacher in his class. He can catch the attention
of his students. The way he used a different strategy, he sustained it from the start and up to the
last part of the discussion. He gives the motivation and perseverance in answering the activities
that he prepared for his class. In his lesson, he gave different examples and activities, to enable
his students to enhance more their skills and knowledge on what they had known in the past
years of their academics. He had success on this matter. The discussion of the topic became
smooth and no unfamiliar terms were seen because of what Teacher Ju had done. He had
connected all the discussion, all the content and he became consistent and confident upon
discussing the specific topic. That’s why I liked how he taught and discussed. His momentum in
teaching became present until the last part of his discussion. And from the start of her discussion,
until the time he gave the activities and up to the last.
My Reflection/ Insights on the Lesson:
In reflecting on this lesson, I can say that Sir Ju can become one of my inspirations in
terms of teaching because he shows professionalism in teaching. He became confident in
discussing his lesson to his class. As of now I am practicing to enhance my self-confidence
because when I became a teacher. I am obliged to do it in my class. To enable my class to see
that I am an effective and productive teacher because of having self-confidence in life. Next, in
the discussion proper, he always repeats his lesson and he wants to emphasize the discussion
well. And in that as a student who is taking an Education program. I want to apply it to myself,
the one where I discuss the different topics that they will give to me and discuss it properly in my
class. And also the strategy on how I can have an interaction with my dearly beloved students. In
taking this course program, it is important to have interaction with your students. So that they
will listen and follow you in a positive way that they will learn and discover more outside of
their comfort zones in life. Lastly, I enjoyed the class discussion. It was a pleasure to see how the
teacher became an effective facilitator in his class.

My Learnings about the 12 online demonstration

Based on the 12 demonstration that I have watched, I learned a lot of things from them. I know
someday or soonest I also teaches elementary grades, because it is my dream and profession to
educate students. It is my dream to make the students empower and evolved them with great
things, while they are growing, because we elementary teachers we are the foundation of them
that’s why we must always have the patience and love. We teachers and future educators our
roles is to mold students and help them to be the best version of their self.
Those demonstrations gives me strength and hope to help me on how to teach, because for me
my knowledge is not prepared and enough to teach students, through those 12 demonstrations, I
learned a lot of strategies from them, on how to make your students come up with the lesson and
how to make them always motivated. I think my knowledge is growing through them and I’m
very grateful with that because I have learned a lot of things.
In the future if I will be given a chance to get the first take of licensure examination and to teach
in public, I will apply those techniques and strategies in my plans to make me more motivated
while I am teaching, because I have a lot of things and techniques to use to make my students
always learned and come up with my lesson.
