QUEEN’S
BIRTHDAY
Why does the Queen have two birthdays a year? 21 April (official birthday:
the second Saturday in June)
Because April, the real month of her birth, is too
cold for parades and outdoor celebration.
Parade in the summer has its own problems, like
Palace Guards fainting under bearskin hats in the
hot weather. The Queen usually spends her
actual birthday privately, and it is just marked by
gun salutes in central London at midday. Her
official birthday, Her Majesty celebrates with
other members of the Royal Family at the
spectacular Trooping the Colour parade.

The Queen's birthday is celebrated in many

countries around the world such as Australia,
New Zealand and Gibraltar, but on different
dates. This year, Queen had Platinum Jubilee.
To celebrate this anniversary, many events will
take place all the year, ending with a four day
UK holiday weekend from Thursday 2nd to
Sunday 5th June.

ST. PATRICK'S DAY
March 17

Why do the British celebrate St Patricks day?

The date, 17th march, is the day St Patrick died, it is beleived that was in year 461. He is a Saint of the
Catholic Church, and the holy day is the day of his death, rather than the day of his physical birth.

Patrick's Day is historically celebrated through a number of traditions. These include preparing food like
corned beef and cabbage, musical gatherings called "céilí," and decorating everything with green color
and symbols like shamrocks and leprechauns. In the United Kingdom, St. Patrick's Day is celebrated in
Ipubs, with parade on the streets, art festivals and performances by well-known Irish musicians...

GUY FAWKES NIGHT
November 5

On Guy Fawkes Day, also called Bonfire Night, people across the UK celebrate with
fireworks, bonfires, sparklers and toffee apples. The night skies are filled with colour.
It’s a special day in honour of a historic event - the anniversary of a failed attempt to
blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605, also known as the Gunpowder Plot.
You can mark the occasion by:
1. Lighting your own bonfire: Grab your friends, some wood, and make a fire!
2. Eating traditional food: You can cook sausage over your bonfire, or you can
simply enjoy bangers and mash.
3. Learning a song:
Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder treason and plot.
We see no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.
