Intro: With our growing population and only a small fraction of the world’s water supply suited
for human consumption, it’s only natural that we should protect and maintain this valuable
resource. Our available water supply is finite, which implies we do not have an infinite supply.
ALIYAH: A pleasant morning to all of you, I am Aliyah Fernandez, and this are my co-
researchers: Ednaline Bazas and Kryssha Gabieta. Today we are going to present to you our
research proposal entitled “Grey water from dishwashing as watering agent on the growth of
pechay plant.
EDNALINE (Executive Summary)- This study will be conducted in Eastern Visayas Regional
Science High School, Catbalogan City as an experimental research study. This research Proposal
focuses on the greywater from dishwashing as watering agent on the growth of the pechay plant
by using the Two-way Anova and also in analyzing the data. The steps of this study include
gathering of resources, experimentation, observing, and collecting of information.
ALIYAH (Rationale) – (read the first 3 sentences in the PPT) because we want to help people
save water. The primary goal of this research is to use grey water saved from dishwashing to
water the pechay plant. Despite its appearance, greywater can be reused and does not need to be
disposed of in the sewage system like other types of waste water. (continue reading the
remaining sentences on the ppt) This means it’s not actually wastewater, but it can be recycled
for safe and beneficial purposes like yard watering. As a result, it can be used to replace fresh
water for various uses.
EDNALINE (Significance) – (Read the first bullet) Water conservation can help any community
cope with the effects of water scarcity. Not only we can see the effect of greywater on pechay
development in this study, but we can also help save water by conducting it. (Read the second
bullet) We conducted this research study because we are concerned about the water shortages
that have been occurring in our towns. We also hope that this will contribute in some way to
water conservation.
ALIYAH (Scientific basis)- Using greywater is a very controversial topic when it comes to
gardening. On one side horticulturalists and health experts worry about the potential for
spreading contaminants or disease. According to Dore (Read the first bullet). A study by (The
Royal Horticular Society, 2021) shows that the (Read the second bullet)
EDNALINE (RRL): (Read the first bullet) We must, therefore, work together to reduce our
water use and reuse water whenever possible and we need to be more aware of the benefits of
greywater. (Read the second and third bullet)
ALIYAH (Methodology): (Read the materials) For the Procedure, Planting of Pechay seeds
and Germination The soil of equal amounts was distributed into each pot. Then the seeds were
placed into each pot and were watered with 9.5ml of tap water every 7:00 in the morning. Every
12:00 at noon, the seedlings were then measured using a ruler and recorded for three days until
sufficient height of the seedlings was observed. The seedlings were placed in the same area
where they can get equal and sufficient amount of sunlight. Collection of Greywater from
dishwashing As we wash our dishes, we use a small basin that can fit in kitchen sink. Then we
collect the water from the basin where we’ve washed the dishes with soap. After that, we transfer
the greywater into another bucket where well store it for a few hours without exceeding 24
hours, as the microbes will thrive. Application of treatment and control After the seed
germination for 4 days, we are going to water the Pechay plant with the treatment with the same
amount of (25 ml) and at the same time of day, (7:00am)
Explanation for the Table: In table 1, we will be creating 4 different types of formulations
namely (A,B,C, and D) containing the amount of graywater and tap water to be watered on the
plant after the germination.
Explanation for the Table 2: In table 2, each formulations will have 3 replicates. The 3 pots
will be watered with different formulas (A,B,C) of waste water and the other one is watered with
tap water (D-).
