MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
Student admitted to the MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA) course shall register
himself / herself as a student of the University of Calcutta / Constituent college as the case may be.
The duration of course of study for the MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA) course
shall be two years divided into four semesters respectively.
Students admitted to the two-year MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA) course
shall pursue the regular courses of lectures, and other academic arrangements made for the two-year
academic term.
A student of the MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA) course shall not be permitted
to seek admission concurrently to any other equivalent or higher degree course in any university.
A student shall be deemed to have pursued a regular course of study in a subject provided he /
she has attended at least 75 per cent of the lectures delivered in aggregate for each semester course
of study. If he / she has attended 65% of the total lectures delivered but less than 75% of the total
lectures delivered in a semester course of study, he / she will be treated as non-collegiate. Candidates
attending less than 65% of the total lectures delivered in a semester course of study will be treated
as dis-collegiate.
The attendance of a candidate shall be counted from the date on which the respective classes begin,
or from the date on which he / she is admitted, whichever is later.
The University shall have the power to condone a deficiency in attendance, as per rule.
A student who fails to pursue a regular course of study as stated in 4.05 to 4.07 may be allowed
to take re-admission to the same course in the next year only. The readmission fees may be decided
by the respective departments / constituent colleges.
Students of MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA) course shall have to pursue a
course of study of the following papers distributed into four semesters (Syllabus is given subsequently).
The syllabus as presented in subsequent sections shall be amenable to changes, if so required, by
the Departmental Committee, Board of Studies and Faculty Council from time to time.
EXAMINATION REGULATIONS
Semester Examination in MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA) shall be held within
six-months in Kolkata and at such places as shall be determined from time to time by the University.
The date of commencing of the examination shall be duly notified.
In each academic session two semester courses will be simultaneously conducted i.e., I and III or
II & IV for two different batches and at the end of which corresponding semester examinations will
be held.
A student will be allowed to appear in a semester examination only after he/she completes his/her
regular MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA) course of study for that semester.

40% marks in any theoretical paper in any semester will be deemed as pass marks for that paper.
A candidate who fails to secure 40% marks in any paper will be allowed to appear for that paper
when the corresponding examination is held. He/she will be allowed two such consecutive chances
for reappearing in each paper.
If a candidate fails or does not appear in one or more papers of the First or Second Semester
Examinations, they can reappear for that paper when the First or Second Semester examinations are
held next for the following session.
However, if a candidate fails or does not appear in one or more papers of the Third or Fourth Semester
Examinations, they can reappear for those papers when supplementary examinations for those papers
will be held. These supplementary examinations will be held as soon as possible after publication of
the respective semester results.
If a candidate fails in the supplementary examination of any Third or Fourth Semester paper(s), he/
she can once again reappear for that particular paper(s) when the Third or Fourth Semester examinations
are held next for the following session.
Classes for the next semester course will start immediately as per notification by the concerned
Department.
Students shall have to specialize as applicable in one of the areas of specialization offered in semesters
III and IV. Semester wise distribution of papers will be as decided by the departmental committee
each year.
Semester (I+II+III+IV) examinations will be held on 3200 marks distributed in four semesters. 20%
of marks in each theoretical paper will be reserved for internal assessment.
The evaluation of field study, dissertation, project report and viva voce shall be conducted as decided
by the Board of Studies / Advisory Committee.
A student who fails in the viva voce examination / dissertation will have to reappear for the same
when they are held next. The viva voce for dissertation and that for specialization for these students
will be conducted again as soon as possible after publication of the Fourth Semester results. He /
she will be given two such consecutive chances for reappearing in each paper.
If a student fails in the viva voce examination / dissertation in the second chance once again, he/
she can reappear for the same when they are held for the following session.
A student who fails in the Project report will have to resubmit the same. The resubmission will have
to be done by the student within one month of the publication of the Fourth Semester results. The
evaluation of the re-submitted Project will be done as soon as possible. He/she will be given two
such consecutive chances for resubmitting the project.
If a student fails once again in the Project on the second attempt, he/she will have to resubmit the
same. This time the resubmission and evaluation of the Project will be done along with students of
the following session.
A student will be declared to have passed the examination on the basis of the results in semesters
I, II, III, IV examinations. The minimum qualifying marks for this will be 40% in each theoretical

paper, 40% in project report, 40% in dissertation and 40% in viva-voce test taken separately and
50% in aggregate.
Reexamination of only two papers per semester shall be allowed for the candidates appearing as a
semester examination provided he/she secured at least 50% marks in aggregate in rest of the papers
of that semester examination.
Candidates having passed as per 5.10 but scoring less than 60% marks in the aggregate will be declared
to have passed the examination in the 2nd class; those scoring 60% or more in the aggregate will
be declared to have passed in the 1st class.
A candidate who fails to appear in one semester examination or in any paper in that examination
may be allowed to appear for that examination / paper along with other semester examination (based
on the syllabus in force at the time of examination) or separately when the corresponding examination
will be held next. He/she will be given such two consecutive chances.
On the completion of the results the University shall publish a list of successful candidates arranged
in two classes and in order of merit.
Each successful candidate shall receive his/her degree of MASTER OF BUSINESS
ADMINISTRATION (MBA) in the form of a certificate stating the year of passing and the class
in which he/she was placed.
