The COVID-19 virus has altered and disrupted how the people learn, work, and socialize.

Because of the pandemic, most of the activities of people have migrated to online. The

pandemic's severe repercussions are particularly noticeable in the sector of education. The

closing of the schools in order to lessen the transmission of virus has brought the education into

online teaching and learning altering the traditional methods (UN Educational, Scientific, and

Cultural Organization, 2020). Because of this, the researchers would like to delve deeper on the

effects of COVID-19 pandemic on the education of students. In accordance, nursing education

consists of both theoretical and practical instruction aimed at improving the professional skills

and knowledge of nurses. In the past, the lectures, laboratory teaching, and clinical rotations have

traditionally been used to teach these skills and knowledge. The COVID-19 outbreak has

prompted new tactics for maintaining high-quality nursing education.

The current study is related to the study of Oducado and Estoque (2020) which stated that

it is critical for nursing students to have continual connection and communication during the

pandemic. Some nursing abilities are simpler to teach in person than online and nursing students

prefer face-to-face contact and interactions in their education. Due to this, the current study aims

to assess the effects of pandemic to the related learning experience of nursing students.

According to Jocelyn Colindres et al., (2019) Related Learning Experience (RLE) is a teaching-

learning experience designed to assist students enhance their skills in a variety of health

situations. These could be provided by walk-in clinics, schools, industrial establishments,

communities, out-patient clinics, and general and specialty hospitals. The RLE gives student

nurses the opportunity to apply what they have learned in class. The current study is related to

the above study as it seeks to know if the COVID-19 pandemic affected the related learning
experience of the students in terms of knowledge, skills and attitude developed among the

nursing students.

In relation to this, the current study aims to investigate the experiences of the nursing

students in online learning. It aims to know the significant experiences and challenges of the

students in terms gaining knowledge, skills, and attitudes. The current study is related to a

previous research of Mayes et al., (2015) in which the researchers stated that one of the key

challenges is the learners' readiness to take online courses as not all students are able to complete

online courses satisfactorily. Inexperienced students may be vulnerable to several challenges as a

result of poor online learning adjustment, including decrease in academic performance (Molnar

et al., 2019). This in turn can affect the students’ related learning experiences in terms of

knowledge, skills and attitudes.
