within the last 25 engine operating hours from the following list: 227,275, 329, 449, 1911, 2266, 2311

• Attempt to start the engine.

• If the engine starts, then proceed to the next Solution.
• If the engine will not start, then reset the search to crank no start.

3 Damaged fuel supply lines

Conditions
• Engine running.
Action
• Visually check fuel tank for adequate fuel supply.
• Visually inspect the engine fuel supply lines for signs of kinks, damage or fuel leaks.
• Visually inspect all fuel system gasket locations for signs of leakage.
Specification
• If the engine will not start, then reset the search to crank no start.
• If there is any damage or leaks found in the fuel system, then proceed to the Repair section.

4 High fuel inlet restriction

• Measure the fuel inlet restriction. Refer to Procedure 006-020
Specification
• If the fuel gear pump inlet restriction is out of specification, then a malfunctioning low pressure fuel system
component has been detected.

• Repair or replace the OEM fuel lines.
• Replace fuel filter.
• Repair or replace the fuel heater.
• Repair or replace the fuel tank stand pipe.

5 Fuel shutoff valve is malfunctioning

Verification
Conditions
• Turn keyswitch OFF.
• Disconnect the fuel shutoff valve from the engine wiring harness.
• Turn keyswitch ON.
Action
• Inspect the pins and connectors for damage. Refer to Procedure 019-361
• Inspect the fuel shutoff valve. Refer to Procedure 019-050
• Perform the voltage check for the fuel shutoff valve coil. Refer to Procedure 019-050
Specification
• If the fuel shutoff valve coil voltage does not meet specification, then a malfunctioning fuel shutoff valve has been
detected.
• If any damage is found, then proceed to the Repair section.

• Listen for fuel lift pump operation.
• Measure the lift pump pressure.
• Turn keyswitch OFF.
• Inspect the integrated fuel system module check valve.
Specification
• If the fuel lift pump pressure is not within specification, then a malfunctioning fuel lift pump has been detected.

7 Loose or damaged fuel line fittings

• Turn keyswitch OFF.
• Verify adequate fuel level in the tank
Action
• Inspect for air being ingested into the fuel. Refer to Procedure 006-003
Specification
• If air is present in the fuel flow, then a damaged fuel supply line, loose or damaged fuel filter, or a loose
connection has been detected.

Action
• Install a mechanical gauge on the engine.
• Use the recommended Cummins® electronic service tool or equivalent.
• Start the engine.
• Compare the sensor reading with the recommended Cummins® electronic service tool or equivalent to a
mechanical gauge.
Specification
• A malfunctioning fuel rail pressure sensor has been detected if the reading is not within the following
specification: 69 kPa [10 psi]

Conditions
• Turn keyswitch ON.
• Disconnect the electric fuel lift pump from the engine wiring harness.
• Engine running at idle.
Action
• Allow the engine to reach operating temperature.
• Run engine at high idle.
• Perform the Fuel Filter Restriction Test. Refer to Procedure 006-015
Specification
• If the differential pressure does not meet specification, then a plugged or blocked fuel filter has been detected.
