Policies: Through a variety of policies, the Company's mission and priorities are integrated into its day-to-
day operations.
Vision: Indian Oil's aim is to provide energy solutions to its customers in a way that is efficient, safe, and
ethical, while minimizing negative environmental impact and improving community quality of life, in order
to maintain a holistic business.
PRACTICES:
When we look at the sustainability practices followed by the company it comes to my knowledge that the
company follows the SDG goals. Indian Oil has been a trusted name across the country. The fact that the
Company operates in a socially and environmentally responsible manner is one of the primary aspects that
lead to customer confidence and goodwill. Natural resource conservation and environmental protection are
critical for long-term company viability. Indian Oil is particularly conscious of its energy and emissions
footprints, as well as its water and other natural resource usages. Indian Oil's broad priority areas for
upholding the essence of environmental
sustainability are energy efficiency, pollution
mitigation, promotion of renewable fuels,
supply chain improvements, and
implementation of digitalization into its
operations.
1. Good Health and well-being: It is critical to ensure healthy lifestyles
and promote well-being in order to achieve long-term development and
affluent communities. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought attention to
everyone's health and well-being. The Company places a premium on
ensuring the safety of its employees. It has a well-defined safety
management system with specific roles and responsibilities for various
functions. Community access to healthcare services is one of its CSR projects' focal points.
Additional efforts were made during COVID-19 to ensure that its employees and communities have
access to healthcare services.
2. Clean Water and sanitization: Countries are increasingly confronted
with issues such as water scarcity, pollution, and the destruction of
water-related ecosystems. India is ranked 13th among the world's 17
most water-stressed countries, affecting more than 600 million people. It
attempts to reduce water use in its locations of operation. In addition, the
company has installed numerous rainwater collection systems to
replenish groundwater. To attain the overall goal of sustainability, the organization is constantly
increasing water conservation methods. It entails the construction of rainwater harvesting facilities
both on and off-campus, as well as on project sites. The campuses have achieved zero-water
discharge status, and the recycled water is used for landscaping and flushing. They also worked with
the community to build and desilt water bodies in order to raise the level of groundwater.
3. Affordable and clean energy: The energy sector underpins and supports all parts of our society,
including businesses, agriculture, education, infrastructure, and communications technology. The
usage of fossil fuels, on the other hand, leads to
greenhouse gas emissions, resulting in climate change.
Accelerating the transition to clean energy is critical.
Through its primary business, the Company contributes
to practically all aspects of SDG 7. By incorporating
clean energy into its product offering, the company is
diversifying its product portfolio. The Pradhan Mantri Ujjawala Scheme and the Sustainable
Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation Scheme are two initiatives spearheaded by the
company. IOCL is into mining as well as refining the oil and the process requires heavy electricity to
do the process and so they have started moving toward renewable energy using more solar panels in
its production system. The company is taking other various measures such as energy conservation
programs (ENCON) being implemented at refineries, and all incandescent bulbs are being replaced
with LED lighting, Natural gas usage to improve fuel economy, Cleaner automotive fuels are being
developed, Renewable energy should be included in its portfolio, Energy production from garbage »
Installation of charging and swapping stations for electric vehicles, Carbon capture, utilization, and
storage research
4. Climate Change: To keep global warming to 1.5°C, greenhouse gas emissions must decrease by
7.6% per year starting in 2020. Companies are already attempting to
reduce their emissions and become net zero as a result of this
realization. To reduce emissions from its operations, Indian Oil is
executing projects on energy efficiency, renewable energy, process
fuel improvements, and technological upgrades. By introducing
biofuels, hydrogen-based fuels, and natural gas into its portfolio, the
company is also decreasing emissions from the use of its products.
Indian Oil recognises the challenges posed by climate change to its operations and is working to
decrease its carbon footprint. Quantifying and reporting GHG emissions related to operations is the
first stage in the company's climate strategy. In its disclosures, the Company monitors and discloses
its GHG footprint from all sites on a regular basis. This year, the company has also published the
emissions associated with the use of its products. IndianOil is concentrating on lowering emissions
from operations and products. The Company has improved its accounting and transparency standards
throughout the years. This year, it was able to achieve corporate-wide GHG emission reporting
standardization.
5. Partnership for the goal: To maximize the impact of its actions, it collaborates with NGOs,
academic institutions, industry associations, and multiple business partners across the supply chain to
achieve the SDGs and solve the world's problems. To maximize the impact of its actions, it
collaborates with NGOs, academic institutions, industry associations, and multiple business partners
across the supply chain. Through research and engagement with policymakers, it also aims to impact
public policy on pertinent problems.
