Intensity log
The generation of intensity logs from fracture data is essential because it describes the density of
fractures per unit length/area/volume and provides an input fracture distribution for the fracture
model. This is a subjective log (are the fracture counts random or not?).
Window
Window length
Depends on cycles of
lithology, facies, and distance
between observed fractures.
Calculate Intensity Logs
Fractures almost
parallel to borehole;
weight = ca. Infinity
Calculate Cumulative Logs from Fractures: Purpose
Cumulative log
Provides a reliability
measurment of the Intensity
calculation (integral). It can
also indicate mechanical
zones by variation in
gradient. Contrary to the
Intensity log, this is an
objective log (cumulated
samples; no window).

Mechanical Zones
Generally, it can be sufficient to define stratigraphic zones; however, it is convenient to define
and model mechanical zones that do not adhere to a given lithology, zone or facies
interpretation, but rather look at the mechanical property variation.
Well Tops
In Petrel, the general Stratigraphy of Well tops can be used, but a new well top set can be
interpreted with respect to mechanical properties.
